I dont get your analogy.  Math isnt science, not at all.  Science is about modeling nature; math is about logical constructs.  It just so happens that logical constructs are useful tools for modeling nature but that doesnt make math science.

You'll agree that it's purely a matter of definition.

Wikipedia states:

Quote:
Mathematics is the science and study of quantity, structure, space, and change.

Encyclopedia Britannica states:

Quote:
Science of structure, order, and relation that has evolved from counting, measuring, and describing the shapes of objects.

so I don't know. Of course you can disagree with every dictionary out there if you feel like it, although I don't really see the point of that.

Barely passed geometry but great at everything else, I've always been terrible at math.

This is undergraduate level set theory. If you're going to do anything "graduate level", I doubt they'll explain any of that to you.

Honestly geometry sucked for me.

Most people in my high school thought Algebra 2 was hard but I found that easy as fuck.

But geometry.....is different math.

But in the broad sense that wikipedia defines science, every subject that exists can be considered a science.  I dont buy it, but Im no expert on the philosophy behind it.

It's not philosophy, it's linguistics. You're not asking yourself what mathematics is, but rather how you should be calling it.

No, Im referring to the philosophy behind science and the scientific method.  Mathematicians need not follow that philosophy (as I see it).

Geometry is really easy if u design ur own flow chart in ur head
then its extremely straight forward

Homeroom huh? I never had that.

I had geometry at the end of the day, so I was always exhausted when it rolled around.

According to your idea, when the Egyptians believed Pythagora's theorem, it was a scientific belief because they did not have a proof. They had just formulated a hypothesis, experimented with many physical instances of right triangles and concluded that their hypothesis was true. According again to your idea, when Euclid believed Pythagora's theorem because he had a proof, his belief was not scientific because it wasn't based on the "scientific method".

Construct or not, the object of study of mathematics is independent of us and can be studied in the same fashion as celestial bodies; it's just that on top of that it can be studied in a way in which nothing else can be.
