A calorie = 4.18 joules.

Its a unit of measurement.  Specifically "the amount of energy required to warm one gram of air-free water from 14.5 °C to 15.5 °C at standard atmospheric pressure".

A calorie is a calorie.  I doesn't really matter where the calorie comes from.

Case in point, arguably, the world's best athlete eats tons of cholesterol containing eggs, chocolate pancakes and tops it all off with an entire pizza for dinner.

Every major scientific textbook and/or authority in the world will define a calorie the same way.  Its a unit of measurement.  It has a universal standard.

A calorie is just a calorie.  Of course there are other things in food that are necessary and important, but a calorie is just a calorie.

I kind of consider it a luxury.  Its kind of a special treat for me.  Mostly I cook at home.  Some fast food is actually pretty good for you, too.  Try a bean and cheese burrito from Del Taco sometime.  Its the best thing since mothers milk.
