Jaw Clenching in your sleep

My brother has been doing this for like 2-3 years now. He fucking grinds his teeth in his sleep its not really clenching, I mean even when he nods off for like 30 minutes. It is terrible to hear, it sounds like he is chewing rocks like they are steak. Its easily audible from 20ft away. I was wondering what causes this, hes 28, hes did more than a fair share of drugs in college, but does something other that weed on the rarest occasions.

I have bruxism too and my wife has been complaining to me about it for years and I have not fixed it but I heard they have mouth guards :shrug:
