So cliche'....Coughing from smokin' bud, do you?....

Does anyone else get annoyed when TV & movies portray weed as if you cough every time you smoke, or if better the weed is more you're going to cough?....

When in reality a good bud will actually be smooth. Usually bud that hasn't been flushed correctly, or was grown with lots of fertilizers can cause a harsh smoke.

I don't know when the last time was that i coughed from smoking weed. It really doesn't irritate my throat or lungs in anyway, regardless of what i'm smoking out of whether it be a bong, dry pipe, blunt, joint, vaporizer, etc...Though I do notice the difference in smoothness & harshness between say a bong and a blunt.

I don't smoke tobacco all that often. Maybe 5 cigs a month, just when i am drinking or hanging with friends that do. I consider tobacco to be much more harsh than weed. One thing i notice is my friends that do smoke tobacco (so i think all of em') hack up a storm pretty often when smoking bud, especially my friend that's trying to quit.

I know weed is one of the best expectorants out there...It cleans the lungs free of dust, phlegm, tobacco tar, and other various air born pollutants. It really opens up your lungs and increases oxygen intake. So my guess is that coughing from weed could have to do with what's already in your lungs and the weed really cleaning em' out and breaking stuff free so you end up coughing it up....Part of the reason, i mean obviously your throat is going to get agitated from heat and smoke at times making you cough....

Anyway, i'm pretty baked at the moment. Wasn't even really sure where i was going with this thread, ahh hell i guess i will throw in a poll while i'm at it.....

Or it makes you cough because it's smoke.
Just because marijuana's active chemicals have those effects doesn't mean the smoke does.

I can't remember the last time I coughed because of weed, I have before though.
I don't usually smoke, maybe a cigarette every month or so.

I cough sometimes most of the time on some good shit kush, purp etc but, The thing that gets me in the wake-n-bake in the mornings. I will cough my ass off.

When I started smoking, I trained myself it keep ripping until I felt like coughing, then holding it in for a bit. I just developed this habit early on of coughing when I rip ganja, so now I usually just do it subconsciously most of the time.

Not like terrible hacking cough, I'll use just cough once and clear my throat a little bit after a hit.

I also don't smoke cigarrettes.

I don't smoke except maybe once a year. I cough every time.
Even when I smoked regularly I almost always coughed.
Something about hot smoke on my throat and in my lungs just makes me cough. Weird, I know.

Atleast that was what I was told by the old stoners when I was a kid,hit it harder untill you cough....I think coughing is like purging ...it helps.

usually if i cough its due to someone packing a bowl too loosely which lets too much air through the bowl. if its packed tightly i don't cough. and i smoke cigs.

This is true. But the expectorant effects of bud is in the smoke....And it is the smoke that agitates the sensitive tissue in your throat, so kinda of a trade off :shrug:. You may cough but are still getting the benefits of the herb. Also depending on how or how hot you burn your herb...

Unless you're using a vape....

Yes, it's in the smoke, but just like any other drug you smoke it's not gonna have an immediate effect.
Maybe if you had some edibles then smoked an hour later.

I think I'm putting two and two together and getting five, but if I cough, and if it's the sort of cough that nearly pops my hernia (so yeah, if my friends are reading this, that's why I grab my balls when coughing) then I get really high afterwards. I figure all that sticky resin when vaporised* gets in the lungs and irritates it.

*heated up and inhaled. Burning it will vaporise the stuff around the embers.

I don't usually cough, unless it's from a bong.

I have a solid strategy with my pipe where I can take huge hits without coughing.. you just inhale the big toke until it starts to irritate.. then I just let the smoke linger in my mouth for a sec, let it cool down.. then slowly inhale it. Works for me :shrug:

And I must say, when I do cough, I get high as fuck. It's horrible at the time, but gets me severely toasted.

I definately cough every time, but I take pretty big hits from a bong. Pipes, etc don't really make me cough.
