A tale of woe

A man walks into a busy room, full of people all having intertwined discussions. Immediately something about the man stands out to everyone else in the room. The man's fingers are plugged in his ears. He otherwise seems totally normal. Throughout the evening the man walks through the room, offering bits of advice and occasionally asking questions. However, the man neither heard the answers to his questions, nor did he hear the corrections to his advice. As a result, every time he met new people, he said the same things, and asked the same questions. As the people in the room began to move on to more developed topics, the man came through and continued to give the same terrible advice and ask the same basic questions, never aware of how often they had been answered before, or how often his advice had been proven inadequate, for he never truly knew what was being discussed at all. People began to grow annoyed with the man. Over time, he had missed so many conversations and social cues, that he never grew as a person, but he was sad, because he was confused at why the world seemed so difficult and lonely. Things went on like this for years. Sometimes he'd meet different people and they'd like his advice, but as soon as they realized how the man went about things, they distanced themselves from him. They say he never pulled his fingers out of his ears. Some say he eventually committed suicide. I sure hope so.
