Have you read LOTR?  Compare it to that.  Or Trinity or War and Peace????  Gimme a frame of reference!

I've only seen the first 2 movies, and that's when I was younger.

I ordered the first book, but I didn't realize how much I hated reading, until I got through the first page.

Well... I love to read, but I guess I'm not that enthusiastic about the Potter series. But this thread makes me want to start reading um. Guess I'll finish the book I'm reading tonight, and start the series tomorrow.

Also, this emoticon is one of my favorites... and

I was the same way. I begged my mom to get me the first book after I saw the 1st movie in theaters (long time ago). I read 5 pages, and was just like fuck this, reading isn't for me. It was always hard for me to focus on books until now because of my ADD. After I quit smoking weed I thought I'd try to get into reading and pick up the first book again, to give myself something better to do than watch TV and spend hours on the computer.

The book is definitely aimed towards a young age group so at times it gets cheesy and seems a little childish, but don't let that make you put the book down. Reading the quotes at the beginning and the other authors who have read it helps fill that weird feeling of "being too old." J. K. Rowling does a pretty good job with imagery, suspense, and there are a lot of surprises and clues that make you think a little. You are in for a real treat if you have yet to watch the movies that come after the first two.

All it took was watching the first movie trailer again for the first time in years that got me excited to pick up the series. I also watch the movie that pertains to each book I finish. It is good eye candy, and it is pretty fun to point out all the things they leave out, even if you're by yourself ...
