The Marijuana Paradox
    #17358420 -

It causes psychosis....and yet, it contains an anti psychotic :bored:

.....I mean, schizophrenics smoke it all the time.

but on the flip side of the coin one of the biggest arguments against it is exacerbating mental disorder's :shrug:

It makes no sense

Well, okay, but take food for example.
Makes you fat if you eat it too much.
Makes you starve if you eat it too little

the human brain has endogenous cannabanoid receptors all over the place.  Schizophrenia is a disease that has been demonstrated to cause atrophy of the brain in a number of areas, including neocortex and white matter.

Psychedelic drugs, including LSD, pisloc(yb)in, and marijuana, seem to encourage people who are predisposed to these disoders to "snap".  It's impossible (at this point) to entirely rule the possibility that these drugs actually *cause* these diseases, but it is clear that they can exacerbate symptoms in people who are predisposed.

The moral of the story is basically this: if you're young, and/or you expect that you or a friend of yours is mentally unstable, you really ought to avoid mind-altering substances.  when you're talking about psychedelics, you are literally talking about things that alter your mind.  Any engineer will tell you that overloading a weak bridge will make it collapse; bridges can be repaired, but often minds cannot.  Please be careful!

That said, have a great trip =)

The real question is.....do you think a guy, whom was easily predisposed to psychotic experiances, could walk life without a SINGLE ONE! had he not tried Marijuana?

In otherwords, had he ate his wheaties, walked on the sidewalk, tucked in his shirt, and ate an apple every day....do you think he could of made it to his death bed without his schitzophrenia kicking in......had he not tried Marijuana :strokebeard:

Not to mention this right here is the psychedelic paradox! I mean......people who are overloaded by life, and on the verge of a breakdown take psychedelics, and can have a life changing experiance that heals them and allows them to make peace with their demons!

And yet..... The same category of people are told to refrain from psychedelics for fear of not comming back?

It makes no sense whatsoever

From what I understand (and please keep in mind that I could easily be wrong), people who have a psychotic break after using marjuana (or other psychedelics), and who turn out to have schizophrenia, would have developed the full manifestation of their disease if they had not ever imbibed a psychedelic.

Psychedelics can accelerate the onset of symptoms, but in a healthy person who isn't going to develop the disease, they won't cause you to become schizophrenic.

This is my current understanding of the relationship between psychedelics and schizophrenia.  Things become a lot harder to qualify when discussing issues like depression or bipolar disorder, but so far as I have ever heard, psychedelics do not CAUSE mental disorders, but they can exacerbate preexisting mental problems.

i hope that clears this up a little.

Indicas have higher levels of anti-psychotics and relaxing than psychedelic cannabinoids, and sativas the opposite.

They actually have a strain of weed at the club that only has significant content of the antipsychotic chemical in weed. It doesn't even have THC, so it doesn't get you high, it's just medicinal. :omgz:

Weed just has many chemicals whose effects counterbalance each other.

THC = psychosis inducing
CBD = Anti-psychotic

Yeah, it's CBD. I would have mentioned that but I actually forgot what it was called. :wow:

No, I smoked a bunch of it and you seriously don't feel a thing. CBD is decidedly not psychoactive. AFAIK it actually reduces the THC high.

But CBD is what gives you the body high, "stoned" feeling right?  So is it to say that that feeling is not psychoactive?

I got a gram of it free once as a daily special at my weed shop, didn't feel much of anything in terms of a 'high' since that's pretty much entirely the THC's job

CBD does have documented psychoactive effects.  Compared to smoking marijuana with THC  & CBD & all the other combustion/plant derived chemicals, I'm not surprised to hear that ingesting ONLY CBD would feel like "[not] a thing" , but extrapolating that anecdotal experience (especially if you smoke 'regular' marijuana) seems unscientific ...

That said I have never had an opportunty to take pure CBD, but if anyone's offering ...

=)
