It's obvious you can't have a civil discussion.

How does your opinion come into play regarding her personal beliefs?

This may be the wrong subject to get nitpicky on, but I do think this is the sort of thing that you CAN have an opinion on.  She's smart enough to not come out straight with some of her more hardcore beliefs, but in her private statements that I've heard, she clearly comes from the school of thought where they believe in these sorts of things.

I'd be slightly reassured if she came out straight and said that she wouldn't let her religion affect her job, but that's not really the Republican way; and I wouldn't believe it anyways with the two-faced, misleading comments I've heard come from their campaign recently (supporting deregulation, being the friends of Mexicans).

you've had discussions with Sarah Palin?

the foundation of Christianity is that of a creator, it's the foundation of many religions, it's what the teach, it's a part of the belief system, wow I'm amazed that a christian would be caught all up in this nonsense since everyone else knows everything sprang from nothing defying all the laws we know and hold true

it takes as much faith to believe sciences version of origin as it does to believe any other

I keep my beliefs to myself, unless specifically asked.  On the other hand, I am frequently bombarded by the christian religion, both at and not at work.  More to the point, the republicans tend to imply, if not legislate, in the direction of some sort of holy state, not to mention maintain a military whose sole purpose at the moment seems to be to kill Muslims and create a system whereby they will be more susceptible to the Christian ideology.  Dems are quite a bit more open, thank you; I don't care how much you want to clip Obama to death or not, them be the facts.

Even more bullshitty than the first part of the sentence, hard though it was to top.

McCain, Obama and Biden are all christian and yet their
beliefs do not enter into this as being something to fear
I find it puzzling that the beliefs of origin tie qogether so
well, a belief that everything came from nothing, one group
says it was a big bang, another group says it was a word

why do you not fear Obama and his christian/muslim faith
is it really any different that Palins beliefs?

it seems to be a Judeo-Christian thing, I believe you need a
review of history, then look the bastard offshoots like islam,
they tend to want to do the same

them be personal opinions, christians been killing for
centuries over religion, jews been doing the same, islam is no
different and there's many other groups that do, just because
the president was a republican doesnt mean he was the
individual responsible for this war

I recall the vote being pretty well mixed so it appears the
democrats wanted some dead muslims too, even obama votes to
fund the murder of the muslims although he didnt vote for war
but he still voted yea for every expenditure on this war since
he took office... blood thirsty democrats, thems some facts

I'm not the one screaming that she's a creationist and wants it taught in school, am I?  It already is taught, as you point out, in some schools in that context and until one of the blowhole liars can point out how or when or where Palin tried to get it into a science curriculum this remains a scurrilous smear.

Then do they get to stop paying school taxes?  He who pays the piper calls the tune.  If a majority of the parents (consumers) want it in then in it must go.  They are fucking retards but that is none of my business.  Or yours.

It is my business. Teaching creationism in school is a violation of the Establishment Clause and is unconstitutional. The Constitution is not subject to the whims of the mentally deficient masses.

Zappa does have a bit of a point here.  I've not seen a source which says explicitly that Palin advocated that parents be allowed to vote to include Creationism in a science curriculum.  That would be a truly damning stance (as science is concerned only with hypotheses testable by the reproducible collection of data).

And Phred, while Ferris certainly overstated his case, there is some truth amidst the bullshit.  The republican anti-abortion stance is almost entirely religiously motivated; McCain flipped on that issue so that he could gain access to the "religious right" block of voters and have a shot at winning; he knew he didn't stand a chance without them.  For Palin and the majority of the voters who constitute the religious right, it is a religious issue.  Also, under republican administrations like W's, there is an increase in funds for faith-based initiatives.... abstinance-only education is the hot-button topic, but other government sponsored faith-based initiatives include AIDS relief and disaster relief programs.  Why is it that these are alloted money as faith-based programs? I see no reason that they shouldn't be secular.  It's things like this, the pandering to the religious right, that give nonreligious people a less-than-pleasant opiinion of republican zeal(otry).

Quote:

No, it doesn't.  We had this discussion before; I admit it takes almost as much faith to believe in the Big Bang as religious creation (though the background IR spectrum/red-shifting provides some supporting evidence for the former, while the latter is supported only by the Old Testament account).  But to believe religious creation over the Theory of Evolution takes a high degree of ignorance (not necessarily stupidity, but ignorance of the facts of the matter).

Where in the Constitution does it even allow schools to get federal money and if they don't they can do anything they want?  Remember the "these things and only these things" clause?

At any rate, this has a way of taking care of itself.  Like in Kansas when the saner members of society realized their kids would be disadvantaged in college and kicked the morons on the school board out.

Why are you so bossy?

abiogenesis from the scientific view suggests that a little
inorganic matter and inanimate organic molecules got together

I'll remember this quote the next time you start bitching about people stealing your tax money.

Degradation of the learning environment is an externality that effects everyone in our country. Our primary schools have already sunk to such a horrendous level that dumbing it down with religious nonsense is hardly acceptable.

Also, where does the establishment of a religion end? If we teach creationism in science class, do we have to teach Hindu reincarnation along with all the other fairy tales ever created and followed mindlessly? The courts have said clearly that the state can not involve itself in any action which endorses one religion over any other.  Teaching the merits (which supposedly exist) of creationism without teaching the merits of any other religion violates this.

Sounds more like chance, a LOT of chance, over a long period of time.  Maybe one day we'll actually be able to calculate the chance, which would help us nail down how much life there is similar to that on Earth on other planets (let alone life in no way similar to that on Earth, like sun-creatures, etc).

That chance starts to get crazy when you start factoring in the number of planets out there.  How does the famous philosophical theory go?  We aren't here on earth out of luck, we are here on earth because that just happens to be where life formed.  The real deal sounds so much more eloquent.

Science is testable and mutable.  Dogma is not.  Given that there is significant evidence for evolution and no evidence for creationist crap creationism should be relegated to the dust heap with the Earth-centric universe and other papist crap.  But the realm of the ethics or morality of abortion is not a scientific question.  Frankly, I can't understand how anyone who believes in the soul and god and all that jazz can reconcile support for abortion.
