Toad
    #6463576 -

I am interested in taking care of a colorado river toad. Do noraml pet stores sell them? Is it difficult to get the venom and could I harm the toad? How easy are they to maintain and does the level of bufotenein in their venom affect anything negativly?

Normal pet stores do not carry them.

Maybe some exotic or specialty shop would happen to have one or two, but unlikely.

Search around online. They are expensive. This, I believe is to deter stupid mother fuckers from buying them just to get high.

Personally, I don't see how one can humanely 'milk' a toad. But I'm not a toad, so i cant say if milking causes pain or not. But the toads do not appear to be all that thrilled when milked.

Get one for a novel pet. Do not get one to get high.

Use plants if you must try 5-meo-dmt......yopo seeds come to mind.

There are others. Do your homework. Its been covered countless fucking times, here, and at other forums and erowid.

it doesnt stress them to be milked. Only buy one if you actually want to have it as a pet though, and wont mind taking care of it. theres a few places online to buy them but i think they are like 150 bucks each or something, otherwise i dont know where you would get one. do alot of reading and get shit ready before you buy one though thats what i would recommend.

I was able to order a male and a female for under $200 from a local exotic pet store. I've milked the male ("Sam") once and he didn't seem to mind at all; it was like popping a zit but easier. I still have yet to smoke it though and I may never. Some people believe that you have to scare the buhjeezus out of them for them to "produce venom" but this is not the case. At least not with a bufo.

I bought them because I like having exotic pets; not to get high. However, if my chinchilah suddenly started growing bud on his back instead of really soft fur, he'd be getting regular hair cuts.

Ok, people.
You don't need to pinch your toads.
STOP NOW!!!
It's just plain mean.
Your pet will think your an asshole.

Rinse your toad with room temp water and put it in a clean glass aquarium. After it bumps and rubs the walls for a while it will get a coating built up on it. Once it gets to that mostly dry, but still gummy point, scrape it up with a razorblade. Dry it and save it for later.
It might take a couple of hour long trips to the harvesting tank.
but
You can get your dose without being a "Fucking Toad Pincher"

Check out Kingsnake.com They are for sale on the classifieds page in the late summer and fall for $50-$75.00. As others have said there are safer ways to get high. There are more interesting amphibians too, if you just want a pet. I just hate to think of you paying to much for one getting really sick and having a pet you don't want to take care of.

Like I said, I bought mine more as a novelty thing than something to get high on. I've got plenty of shit around my house to get f'd up on without smoking my pets. I know there's more interesting amphibians to have as a pet but I love my little guys.

The biggest hassle of owning one of these is the crickets. I have to buy crickets, then buy oats and shit to feed the crickets so that they're more nutritious for the toads. Plus I have to keep them inside now that it's finally feeling like winter here. I'm not grossed or weirded out by toads, but for some reason I hate crickets.

You aren't limited to only crickets.

Some toads can be 'trained' to eat frozen foods(thawed at feeding).

Also, you can purchases 'loaded' live food that has been fed a more nutritious food stock for the purpose of them being better for whats going to be eating them.

Mail order meal worms or wax worms also an option....hell even earthworms dusted with vita-max or something would be fine.

Yeah, they have a pretty diverse diet. Crickets though, appear to be their favorite by far. My 2 little guys actually fight over them.

BBB sent me a bunk toad. He was missing his left limbs upon arrival. He still eats and soaks though and has lived so far (had him for a couple months) so it worked out alright I guess.

That's so sad.

:frown:

I always kind of assumed that a place that focuses on many entheogens and can often times barely take care of their cacti take terrible care of the toads.

Yeah Pika, you're the one that inspired me to get a pair of my own but after reading all your posts (and having had experience with some of their other products) there was no way I was going to go through BBB. In their defense though, I highly doubt that they're the ones "taking care of the toads". I think it's likely that they're just a middle man that never even sees the little buggers.

Hey Pika, was that the second one that you ended up getting?

I thought I remembered pictures of your first one where everything was all good.

That is sad. I hope he/she still makes out okay.
