Why Nazism should not be given a platform as a supposedly "legitimate" political alternative. * 4
    #29527391 -

:didnazithatcoming:

Nazism is not merely “another viewpoint” in the marketplace of ideas but an explicitly dehumanizing, historically catastrophic ideology whose core principles—racial hierarchy, exclusion, authoritarianism, and the systematic erasure of entire groups—have already been enacted with devastating, irreversible consequences, most horrifically during the Holocaust; to grant it a platform as if it were a legitimate political option is to normalize a framework that depends on stripping human beings of dignity, rights, and ultimately existence, and to ignore the hard-learned lesson that such ideas do not remain abstract—they mobilize, organize, and manifest in real harm; treating Nazism as debatable rather than fundamentally disqualifying blurs the moral boundary that protects pluralistic societies, emboldens extremism by granting it visibility and false equivalence, and risks reopening pathways to persecution, violence, and societal collapse, making its exclusion not a suppression of discourse but a necessary act of collective self-preservation and ethical clarity.

:antifascist:

NO.

Be Leftwing, be Rightwing, be Centrist, do NOT be a Nazi.

These people don't follow the rules we need to stop following the rules of engagement when we're dealing with them and we need to meet them with extreme prejudice.

Fuck these people.

I think what has greatest benefit to society is a thorough teaching of political literacy and civics in grade school.

Constantly recalling what the Nazi's did that was so atrocious and acknowledging that they were a political party; with a broad and complex platform, like any other party, is the key to limiting the potential for future suffering on humanity from regimes who would commit crimes against humanity and democracy.

Partisanship in media and political rhetoric became incredibly toxic over the last 10+ years... with anyone and everyone being called 'Nazi' for so much as asking a question on topics of immigration, culture, sexuality... even health.  Cancel culture, social media censorship and community/workplace doxxing became so ubiquitous, that a HUGE percentage of the population felt their way of life and means threatened.  This created mass alienation away from the left, ironically allowing the right and most important, authoritarian political parties to absolutely dominate, in elections and social media around the world.

This is what sucks... but.. is manageable...
Nazism... and I mean true nazism.. is a political installation.  A permanent wound in political culture.  No rational, moral person, is going to platform that, in any real way.... HOWEVER... it will not be entirely eradicated in any living persons timeline.  We will see waves of movements inspired by them for the foreseeable future. NOTHING can stop that.

SO.. the question becomes; "How do we marginalize it as much as possible."  The answer is by making and keeping HUMAN RIGHTS absolute.  Keeping the population well educated.  Maintaining Freedom and Democracy.  Installing and re-affirming checks and balances in our governments and systems of justice that keep the potential to commit atrocities impossible.

You can let them have there silly marches... You can let them publish their dumb ass newsletters; It will account for NOTHING, if you maintain an educated public, basic human rights and a strong democracy.

It is not easy... It is not comfortable... It is actually scary... It is difficult...  BUT it is wise, to keep freedom of speech, thought and expression absolute... Because Nazism can't exist unless those freedoms are first compromised... Remove those rights and protections and the sort of atrocities the Nazi's nearly obliterated humanity with are CERTAIN to come in many forms and names.

The problem is that roughly 30% of any given population likes it. Often not the end result, but this is one of those things that's all about the journey.

Naw...

I would say that most of us have some kind of transgressive belief... conscious or not.  Upfront or secret.

Something else we all TEND to have in common is the general preference of peace and wellness in our community and for our families.

I don't believe we are all super moral or ethical.. but, on the day to day, we shy from violence and rather to have a society that functions, without camps and genocide.

It actually take alot of work for a government to get away with atrocities.

Again none of the right wing groups are building camps in the 21st century its left wing groups. I agree free speech is absolute and needed. We cause mass death and oppression on both sides of the aisle.  Easy example is pro choice vs pro life, you can allow abortions and have over a 1 million baby's not carried to term in America a year. Or you restrict freedom of choice and kill 12k pregnant women a year. Both have cons so picking either can be considered evil, but choices being made in bad faith agents leads to problems with bad outcomes.

So the people that I am referring to are those that believe freedom is the right to do what you are supposed to do. The know your place people. That is their version of wellness and community.

You think your average racist white dude genuinely hates black people for existing? No. Most of them simply believe that for the safety and harmony of the community, black people need to exist...somewhere else.

Then an extreme racist comes along and says "I have a solution!"

And then you get gas chambers.

When the extreme racist comes along, nothing changes if you have political literacy, human rights and a justice system with laws preventing gas chambers and mass incarceration.

Except history has shown us that this is not the case repeatedly, and psychological studies have since confirmed this will not be the case.

30% of the population will gas their (inferior) neighbors as soon as someone they perceive to be an authority tells them to do so.

Yes, we face these complex choices as society evolves.. and often all directions mean some level of adversity to many, including, death and suffering.  Some regimes, however, intend to cause immense suffering and death to certain groups.  That is when I begin to consider it an atrocity.  Nazi death camps.  Pol Pot's authoritarian purges.  The Rwandan genocide.  The widespread human rights abuses of totalitarian and fundamentalist regimes.

Wrong, the Milgram experiment says 65% will shock people to death regardless of "inferior" people or not as long as authority figure says to do it. It's not about racism its about human beings are social creatures that have herd mentality.
What about ring wing political theory offends you more than left wing political theory.

Are you trying to justify the 30% would gas chamber their neighbor because of racism so you don't feel confident about your idea of killing all republicans in death camps.

Either genocide is right or wrong.  If its wrong why are you Kryptos so offended by bad ideas that you be happy commit mass murder based on thoughts opposite of yours?

I don't think you understand the circumstances that brought about the brutality we credit to the Nazi party.  Germany was in a very desperate place; The entire world had isolated it from trade and industry since ww1,  What little it had of law enforcement and political will, was through 'Friekorps' essentially mercenary, thugish gangs, on adventure raids, more often than serving the public.  Unemployment was often over 50%.

When you have a stable, educated and just society... there is no want for a Hitler, Pol Pot or other extremist ideolog with big wild ideas to take authority over that 30%.

This is why I described the alienating partisan behavior, in the last 10+ years as cautionary... Both sides have undermined their own ethics and institutions, eroded freedom or speech and expression.  They set precedents for the use of hyperbole and demonizing entire groups of people, in attempts to make political gains... all of which greatly backfired.  The United States is in a time of erosion; rights, quality of life, global standing and respect..  No Nazi's did this...  It was greedy Media, ambitious/inept/corrupt politicians, vacuous film and social media influencers; all of whom subscribed to a hardline partisan divide..... and I think that you may actually survive it, BECAUSE of your judiciary, rights and freedoms.  I do not believe America will ultimately become a totalitarian nation and commit a major genocide.

See i disagree, we have lived in totalitarian state for over a century.  You see all the cameras and listening devices everywhere to spy and control you.  Anytime the government changes policy they are tightening the screws and rights away. State having officials in all social media and media officials allowing narratives and the government allowing police spokes people write copy for local TV stations to read word for word.
United states has a huge population in prison mostly done by plead barging and false confessions caused by the Reid method.

The Milgram experiment is both flawed and irrelevant to this discussion.

Quit putting words in my mouth. I never said any of that. Your failures at reading comprehension are your own.

Political violence is also not genocide, unless you're arguing that voting for political parties is a genetically inherited trait.

Edit: Also the only thing your "21st century death camps" bullshit shows is that you don't understand the difference between right wing and left wing. That's a common failure of reasoning which is heavily pushed by right wingers looking for excuses. Kinda similar to how Israel conflates itself, a political entity, with Jewish religion in an effort to shield itself from criticism.

Berlin was the cultural center of the world in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

But yes, that same 30% of the population wanted to tear it all down in favor of tradition.

Here's more relevant reading:

https://theauthoritarians.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/TheAuthoritarians.pdf

Basically, you have two relevant scales here. You have the Right Wing Authoritarian (RWA) scale, and you have the Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) scale. About 30% of the population is "high" on the RWA scale. Those people generally feel threatened by change and others not following the same traditions that they follow. This is your christian granny that bakes pies every day and becomes a foulmouthed sailor when she sees someone not going to church on Sunday. SDO scale measures how much you feel that your group is superior to others. This is your "We do things my way because every other way is stupid".

The difference here is that granny does not consider herself superior to someone who doesn't go to church, she just thinks it's wrong that someone doesn't go to church. The SDO thinks anybody that doesn't do things like their community does things is subhuman. There is surprisingly little overlap between high RWA and high SDO folks. High RWAs are generally your authoritarian followers. They just want things done "how things are supposed to be", and don't much think about what that means. Someone who is low RWA but high SDO doesn't care about tradition, they just care about winning for their own group, whatever they perceive winning to be. Someone who is both high RWA and high SDO...that's your authoritarian leader. That's the guy that will use the cult of traditional values to whips regular RWAs into a killing frenzy.

Interestingly, Bob Altemeyer identified that the best question to ask if you want a good read on RWAs (without going through the whole scale) is to ask "how authoritarian should society be?" low RWAs and medium RWAs both say society should not be authoritarian. High RWAs say society should be somewhere in the middle, because their fundamental psychological need is to be seen as "average".

A bloom of arts and culture does not equal economic stability.  It does not mean, that the common people were well off... safe in their homes, enjoying law and order.  It means a very lucky few, were dancing and drinking in a tiny part of one city.

There is no real debate, of the depression, unemployment and despair faced in post ww1 Germany.. and that it ultimately led to the support of the National Socialists; Not for a return to traditional values, but, because it put food on the table, gave Germans jobs, a place in the industrial revolution and a sense of dignity, rather than being treated like Europe's outcast step-child.

And yet the median German in 1930 was better off than the median frenchman in 1930, with a relative PPP of 5.1 USD compared to France's 4.6 USD.

Under your analysis, Hitler should have been French.

The Nazis rose primarily on identity politics, specifically the rejection of gay and trans people. Much like modern maga rose to power on identity politics, specifically the rejection of gay and trans people.

Also fears of communism.
