LOL, Yurts...  They just had an episode on "How it's Made" profiling a company in Colorado, of all places (OF COURSE OF COURSE), who make these Huge Yurts.  It's o.k. out in the Wilderness but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be living in a Yurt on the land I grew-up on in North Long Beach - The walls are too easy to overcome and enter to steal shit out of the occupancy.

These things have been happening since the days of JESUS my friend  Why do you think the bible talks about saving your riches for heaven and not this hell hole. I promise you even the magical land of Holland deals with the same shit.

They don't allow people in whom don't speak Dutch.

Hopefully see you soon :awedance:

I was thinking about that, I actually have family there, it's my mom's home country. :mitebecool: I need to look into the universities.

Google translate isn't working too well for Dutch. There is no literal translation for 'full blown citizen'; the literal translation really doesn't make sense  Besides, there is no hard limit to the immigrants allowed into the country, and it certainly wouldn't be 200. Access control, however, has been quite strict during the past decade or so due to the influx of people mainly from the African continent. In general, things are a bit easier if you're a 'knowledge worker', which in practice usually means you're an engineer, with at least a MSc. degree. But then you'd probably be here on invitation and not to flee away from a real or perceived problem in your own country.

Yup, They want Skilled Labor; more or less in industry where the general populace is lacking enough qualified workers.

A few years back I was looking into migrating to Canada and I had more than enough Work Experience and add on top of that Two College degrees from real institutions.

I'm currently looking into moving to somewhere in the English Islands, Ireland, Scotland, England, Whales and the Isle of Mann.  And as soon as I can get my intermediate level ITIL Certification it would be no problem getting work, working at place all the way out in Europe.  And to them it is an Insult to Drug test a professional Level Practitioner of I.T. technology.  After I complete the Advanced levels I should be getting paid litigation lawyer money.  Work six months out of the year and chill out the rest of the time.

I can only remember getting drug tested for Contract work and that was because I was working as a Help-desk tech at the World's Largest Maker of Ice Cream.  There is more Ice Cream coming out of one single point Bakersfield California than anywhere else in the Entire World.  I learned a lot of shit working with them there.  Wish I still had that job.  Would be making just over $30 an hour.

Everyone wants to master their own life and live in the way they see best... but will moving to Holland do that any faster for you?

Yesterday I met a 41 year old traveler who didn't have shit but his guitar and that seemed incredibly challenging but you know what he had? The belief in himself, the love of life, and the ability to discern what's going on around him... with those attributes you can live anywhere and find inspiration and peace. Don't let the man get you down!

The NL is really nice. I've been to several parts of it. They got tall houses, tall dykes, tall windmills, tall people, wooden shoes, and vaguely racist Christmas imagery. Don't be hatin'.

they dont want americans moving there, just visiting and spending money.  you will be discriminated against, jobs will go to born and bred locals before they ever go to you.  if you wanna smoke dope, move to colorado.

old guy i was close with lived there for about 5 years.  constantly dealt with problems like i'm describing, finally opened his own clothing store, but was still blacklisted because he was american.  his shop failed, and he said fuck it and came back to america. g/l man.

that and it sucks there.  vacationed there for two weeks, and was sick of it after a week.  i guess i'm kind of a country boy thou, so if you like big cities with five story buildings everywhere around you, maybe it will be to your liking.

oh, and if you enjoy the american ideals of 'I want more than i need for less than i should pay' you will not fit in there man.  shit, 2 euro for a 8 oz coffee?  and no damn refil or deal on one?  think i spent as much or more on coffee than i did dope.  there isnt a starbucks hooking you up with a grande for 3 bucks either.

lol, went to a mcdonalds right before it closed and had the lady fill me up the biggest cup they had with coffee.  it took a full minute for her to even understand what i wanted, it blew her mind.  then when she was bringing it to me the other 3 girls working with her crowded around wondering what it was and why i wanted it......one asked me if i would rather have a bucket of coffee...lol.  needless to say, i asked if she happened to have a bucket.

i'd suggest an extended visit before you make up your mind to move there.  i think theres better places to live.

Everything is more expensive but the goods are generally much higher-quality. I mean something as simple as cheese and crackers will blow your mind with flava. Their lunchmeats make ours taste like dogshit. Their coffee is also dank as fuck-- trust me, I'm a barista. :sadyes:

What's weird is that things which are necessarily the same are also more expensive, though. For example, video games cost on the order of 60 euros last time I visited, and that was before the financial crisis, when the exchange rate favored the euro most highly. In other words those games cost $120. I don't really care about video games that much, though. I'd have to buy them overseas anyway.

I can see how a country boy would hate the NL, though. It is an intensely gentrified country. Personally, that's one of the things I like about it-- that and the robust public services. I wouldn't go there to start a business but as a student (not to mention as a kid of a Dutch person who moved to America) it's very tempting.

I find the number of responses about living in a yurt eating beans pretty funny. If anything that's closer to America. The NL is a highly developed country that takes care of its people. That means it's crowded sometimes, with a lot of tall buildings packed into small areas, and even a lot of modernized medieval towns with cramped streets, but the overall quality of life is high and the local culture is very rich. Again though, I wouldn't go there if I was trying to start a business (or if I played a lot of video games ).

It should also be noted, the cops there know their place... they keep to their damned selves, don't mess with people unless they're causing a ruckus. Actually make you feel somewhat safe. Quiet friendly people, unlike the paramilitary goons in America.

This thread is making me want to visit the NL... I've had some very good experiences there. :awesomenod:

Holland is rural as hell. You just have to move away from the 'big' cities or what we call the Randstad (Ringtown or something in English). Drenthe (thats a province) would be perfect for you.

Yeah stuff is expensive and has been increasingly so for the past years, but here is a short list of some stuff that might interest you peoples of the Shroomery:

Killer weed 10€/gram - Expensive I know but freely available in nice shops
Real good MDMA - 20€/gram
Magic truffles - 18€/35 gram freely available in shops
Shrooms - You are free to order growkits and whatnot
LSD - 5€/hit but I have seen it at 500€/500hits

Also we have good tulips if you are into that kind of thing!

Are you still allowed to have like 5 marijuana plants per household?

I remember something about them changing that rule because with all the new growing techniques peoples plants got ridiculously large and there grew too much weed on them

I can get MDMA for around the same price, I can get pot cheaper, LSD is more expensive but its still not expensive.  Your heroin and amphetamine are cheaper, but our coke is a lot better than yours and we can probably get most pharms/ketamine for the same price as you.  Really though, with the silk road the prices are pretty similar everywhere to the site or cheaper.  Moving to a country though (unless you are a drug addict with a serious habit) is kind of stupid.  As you get older your drug connections get a lot better.

I got fucked over by my landlord when I tried to grow and I've heard of other people having the same problem. Apparently you're only allowed to grow if you don't use lights, which is a ridiculous rule in a country like Holland where you're happy if you get more than one hour of sunlight a day.

That's the only valid argument in your list.

Quote:
rights being taken away little by little

We have witnessed similar legislative processes as you did in response to e.g. 9/11. Overall, we see the same trend of privacy/individual liberty getting into conflict with a desire for security. Note the abstract nature of the concepts in the previous sentence, which makes it really hard to see if 'rights' are really 'taken away little by little.' Society changes, that much is true; both for the US and for The Netherlands.

Quote:
banks and corporations rule this land = corporatocracy

The assets of all financial institutions in The Netherlands combined are roughly 4 times its GDP. In the US, the total assets of all banks combined are actually a bit smaller than the US GDP. In addition, we also have big brands (some of them actually American) that dominate the marketing field. On the other hand, just like in the US, it's perfectly possible to work around those and buy e.g. locally produced food and whatnot.

In short, I doubt your perception of this supposed Dutch paradise is very accurate.

Nah let him found out for himself man. If you don't like 'murica, then  you can giiiit ouuut.
