This has been my point this entire time, but many people think that wanting psychological assessments for gun owners (a form of gun control) automatically means I want all guns banned apparently.

Has anyone in this entire thread ever said that all guns should be banned?

Various politicians and commentators have.  We already have psych assessments for gun ownership.  He stole the guns.  How would any psych assessment requirement for gun ownership prevent that?
The liberals have closed the asylums.  That puts more nuts on the streets.  Thanks a lot, libs.

You have to change the heart and minds of people. We live in a society of violence in every way from the shows we watch to the music we listen too. for the last ten years we have been at war, Violence and hatred toward our fellow man has been a way of life in the general mainstream, That is what has to change. More people have to care. ok im done preaching.

I also think another form of gun control should be implemented through technological advances that ensures that only the gun's proper owner can fire it, which I've mentioned before in this thread and would have prevented this situation or would have made it more difficult to carry out at the very least. I think that's a reasonable form of gun control that even you could agree with.

Liberals closed the asylums? You mean the ones where people were treated horribly and abused because of their mental state? Weren't you arguing earlier that the people committing these murders wouldn't have been in an asylum anyway since they hadn't been previously diagnosed?

So who else has spotted inconsistencies in the story?

" It has been widely reported that a Bushmaster .223 assault weapon — a version of the AR-15 — was found in
the trunk of the vehicle driven by Adam Lanza to the school. However, Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut state patrol said at a press conference this morning that all recovered weapons were found in close proximity to Lanza’s body."

http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/2012/12/15/newtown-massacre-reawakens-question-of-gun-control/

"Law enforcement officials speaking on condition of anonymity said that Lanza fatally shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, then drove to the school in her car with at least three guns, including a high-powered rifle that he apparently left in the back of the vehicle, and shot up two classrooms around 9:30 a.m."

Anyone could be a mass killer. It is so easy to say "The problem is that this shit was allowed to roam free" after the fact. He is clearly a shit, I mean... he killed 27 people.  Who knew he was that kind of shit on two days ago, or two weeks ago. And you can't lock up everyone who could potentially go on a spree.

I'm going to assume you believe gun ownership is about freedoms and individual rights. You are arguing that we violate a persons right to due process and protections from unreasonable suspicion (5th and 4th amendments) for being weird or even acting unstable (1st ammendment protected behaviors) just to preserve a radical interpretation of the 2nd ammendment.

Short of making specific threats, you can't simply lock people up. We can take these guns out of the community and prevent their manufacture, sale, and ownership because you do not have any right to them. The second ammendment has never been interpreted that way.

Do you know what a straw man argument is?  I have lots of guns.  I've never shot even one person and only a very few animals.  The difference between me and people who do?  I'm not insane.  And it is a historical fact that the libs forced the closing of the asylums.

Not everybody could be a mass killer.  Could you?  I could not.  I certainly could have the means and the ability but I could never have the depravity.  You?

We cannot take the guns out.  It is a pipe dream.  It is completely impossible.  You have to be utterly delusional to even propose it.  Put the fucking nuts under strict supervision.  The ACLU is responsible for more deaths than the NRA could even dream of if it dreamt of such heinous shit.  I would prefer violating the rights of identifiable nutlogs than of everybody else.

Why is it highly impractical? Is having a safety on a gun highly impractical? Why would implementing another safety precaution on a deadly weapon be impractical? Then stolen guns would never be used to kill innocent people. I really can't see how that is impractical even if it would be a little costly, though I doubt that would matter with how much profit gun companies already make.

I didn't know any guns already had this, that's pretty awesome though since it means the idea is completely doable.

Are you implying that outlawing manufacture, sale, and ownership will rid the country of guns!?!?!?!?  Like the War on Drugs did with drugs?

That would just put more guns on the black market and more people would be manufacturing homemade guns with lathes and mills

The demand for guns exists, and guns are not going to disappear anytime soon.  Taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens and leaving them only to the criminals solves nothing.

why should I have to go through a psych eval to buy a gun? I have no history
of violence, no history of substance abuse, I'm an upstanding member of my
community... will you be paying for this psych eval?

what disqualifies someone from owning a firearm under your idea, being on
antidepressants? maybe bipolar meds, as you stated earlier, having visited
a psychiatrist seems to lead you to believe a person to be crazy. maybe we
should include those that have had alcohol on the crazy list

after fitting any of these criteria, it may be only the christian
fundamentalists that are allowed to own guns, now wont that be swell

It's impractical because the cost for implementing such technology would be outrageous. There is a huge financial difference between a safety and "palm reading" technology. Also, I would like to see information about the glock that contains this technology, preferably something that indicates how much such a gun cost.

People find ways around technology all the time, I'm sure there would be a way around this technology too. Also, how many guns already exist without the technology? Are we just going to round them all up? Good luck with that.
