She's got a point, sometimes arguing with people on this site is like shouting at a wall, it changes nothing. Rarely do you see a happy medium of discussion here, most of the time people just shout talking points with no intention of learning and weighing other opinions.

People born into poor families inherit poor, economic decision-making not due to inherit irrationality and stupidity, but because they lack an educational and supportive environment that is more guaranteed in a financially secure household.

How is the day to day endeavor to feed and shelter one's self a constraint?  Is that not the condition of all life?

A lot of people are inherently stupid.  Fully 50% of the population is below average in intelligence.

We all aren't playing the same game with the same set of rules.

You're right.  The bums get away scot free and the rest of us get tax and regulatory colonoscopies whenever we try to do anything that might actually be profitable.

I just saw a show on Dylan Ratigan's book "Greedy Bastards". I will be reading this book. He made a lot of sense when he was talking about it and its contents.

This thread would have been much better if it were titled "Pwnage and modern society."  That is all.

You're a dinosaur dude, all you care about is your ability to push your view onto others.

People are born into $40,000 worth of debt. Remember that coyote analogy from the first page? yea.

I thought the book and its contents would be relevant to this thread. I guess you don't think so. I try to stay out of politics due to the volatility it brings out in people. I vote too by the way.

http://www.dylanratigan.com/greedybastards/

• A political system in which lobbyists write legislation, lawmakers place "secret holds" to create more pork for their districts, and money drives the whole process.

• A banking system that uses capital for speculation and debt creation, rather than productive investment.

• A "master-slave" relationship with our Chinese bankers, making our corporations and politicians complicit in a system that rigs our currency and leaves us with permanent joblessness and massive trade deficits.

• A health care system that is among the priciest and least sustainable in the industrialized world.

• An educational system that prizes prestige but produces mediocrity.

• An addiction to foreign oil that has sapped us of our willingness to innovate, made us reliant on inefficient technologies, and left us supportive of corrupt governments.

To combat these vampires and to isolate the systematic ways in which our once productive industries and our government have been breached, Ratigan does not offer a grab bag of flimsy suggestions or useless hot air. Instead he provides readers with a set of values that together form the answer for how each of us can not only understand what has gone wrong-but join together to make it right.

Why are you so myopic? You bring up valid points but those points are no longer relevant because our system is rotten to the core and crumbling. Hell, perhaps I am the dumb cunt here, but at least I am willing to accept that as a possibility.

I have not seen him lately. I am buying this book the next time I buy a book! I just saw the signing/Q&A session on msnbc today. It really made me want to read it. He made so much sense and talked about such relevant things.

Not really.  Tax burden is highly progressive, and thus any budget deficit or national debt is also progressive.  The poor are born with zero federal debt, since they dont have a federal tax burden.  The rich are born with >40k worth of debt since they do have a federal tax burden.

oh gosh, really the generous should just be fed up of that.

we should make it equal and make it so no tax burden is held by anyone, poor or rich alike.

remember that one time rich people fucked us over and some hippie made a thread about it? And then a dozen or so people agreed with OP until zappa and pris catch wind of the thread?
And then everyone argues against the impenetrable "not my problem" defense, and beford you know it the thread is 20 pages long and everyone of them looks the same?

That thread was awesome.

What about the debt of the government, when they can't make the payments, they engage in money printing, citizens don't have that luxury.

What about when a financial institution gets into too much debt (banks), they get injected with capital from the Federal Reserve.

There is a double standard taking place, Wall Street and Washington don't play by the same rules as Main Street.

The question is today, why do middle class people even need to use so much debt?  It's called a lower standard of living, flat wages, unstable employment, and higher living costs.

I never had debt, but again I sacrificed more than most people, but today people are taking on debt just to maintain status quo.
