Identification of my hunt today
    #12765704 -

Can someone please identify this species for me? I am new to the forum and just went on my first hunt today. I hope the info and pictures i provide will be proficient to tell me whether these are edible, psychoactive or so forth. THANKS!!!!

Habitat: found growing in a deciduous woods, in light moss and in a dirt/mud

Gills: Bronze, or a rusty brown attached (if that means they go from the stem to the edge of the cap)

Stem: lighter tan than the caps, typically gets a bit larger near the base, looks like its covered in cinnamon maybe due to the spores dropping?

Cap: brown around the edges, a nice wood color, to a tanish orange in the midde to a BIT darker tip

Spore print: none taken

Bruising: no noticable color change due to bruising,

Location: picked in north eastern united states, New York

Laccaria species. Not active. The spore print should be white. What trees were they growing under?

Pretty sure. Positive they're not active. Take a spore print.

Well, he told you that the print should be a certain colour, so I'm guessing his confidence in it relies on that.

Cortinarius, I'm guessing.

It does have the wide gill spacing, color, size, and habitat of L. laccata

But not the white spores, therefore that's not what they are...

Er, no... Mushrooms of a given species will generally have a particular spore colour. That's the whole point of taking a spore print in the first place.

Yeah texture and cap shape also say Inocybe, I guess. I suppose it's more likely than Cortinarius.

I'd guess Cortinarius if the prints are rusty brown...but I've been wrong before...:smirk: Can you post a pic of the print?
