Breeding Salvia Recognita for potency
    #25903961 -

I have 40 seeds of Salvia Recognita, and am planning to breed them for potency. The problem is, I really don't know the first thing about breeding, or how to even measure and compare the Salvinorin A levels. Because it's very difficult to get Salvia Divinorum in my state, and even more so to get a live cutting, I have to resort to this method. If I could find a way to get a cutting, this wouldnt be necessary. Still though, it's a fun experiment and I'll do it anyway. I hope that reverse tolerance combined with selective breeding will eventually get me to the point where I wouldn't even need an extract. I have a few questions.

1) do you need to feel the psychoactive effects of the plant to start building reverse tolerance? For example, can I achieve this by simply having leaves in my mouth for a long time, every day?

2) what kind of equipment would I need to test the salvinorin levels of the plant?

3) I'm a little familiar with simple genetic trait stuff, like the guy who bred peas and hair color, but I feel that it's simply not enough for this project. What else should i study to understand what I'm doing?

Thank you for reading. I hope to give updates so that others might learn how to do this, and also to work on other plants, if it applies.

If you have the money places like labcorp can do an analysis...

The way the plant is already you can do an extraction that will just require 4x the leaf, but that really isn't that unreasonable for one person producing a personal use amount although you'll need to produce a good kilo of dried leaf probably to get 210 mg of active content. That might sound crazy, but with a minimum dose of 200 ug and average anywhere around 1-3 mg means it's not too unreasonable. Again you'll need to look into an acetone and isopropyl extraction, which I can't remember what order of solvents to use, but that should leave relatively pure salvinorian A

That's a good point, but my fear is that it wont be only 4x as much. Ive heard numbers saying it varies up to even needing 25x as much. That was the idea behind breeding anyway.

But if it really is only 4x as much, then a kilo a month ahould be pretty easy with 4 indoor plants no?

I've read all about extraction, and am confident I'll be able to pull it off. One day I hope to not need to extract at all.

Even 25x is reasonable-ish... Again it depends on your space. You can just grow it and do the extraction and keep crossing them hoping they come out better... I have to wonder if they can be crossed with Sally D. I'm sure you can find some place that will send seeds.

Edit: nvm on the seeds. How sure are you yours are correct?

Doing a standardized extract and bioassays could be one way.
However I don't think your yield expectations will be met, it grows much, much slower than Salvia divinorum and the leaves are also much smaller.
Yielding a kg month of useable plant matter indoors doesn't seem realistic to me at all, especially with just 4 plants. I think yield would most likely be more around 10-20g of dried leaf per month with 2 years old plants, if that.

My recognita flowered for the first time recently, it's 18 months from seed to give you an idea:

1. I don't think you'll be able to sublingually ingest enough for recognita to feel effects even with reverse tolerance.
2. I think you'd need some pretty serious lab equipment like gas chromatography though maybe it could be done at home with thin layer chromatography.
3.I think it'd be pretty tough to produce higher potency recognita on a reasonable time scale without genetic engineering, especially because the seeds take 2-3 weeks to germinate minimum.

well, i guess this idea is a bust. at least the plants look nice. i'll plant them anyway.

i knew the leaves were smaller, but i did not know about the slow growth rate.

Again look up the extraction method... As long as you end up with a couple mg you'll have enough for SL or vaporization. Is there any way for you to travel somewhere legal to obtain a S Divinorun cutting that you then bring back? Or you could order one big order from DNM or a vendor who doesn't restrict shipping locations.

I'm in the middle of the States. I could travel, sure, but I wouldn't know where to. I've been putting off making an account here for years, but I guess I should have done it sooner as the marketplace is restricted until i've been here three months. I've been hearing a lot about recent arrests on DNM and I think i'd rather stay away for now.

I'll still plant the seeds. I have 40 of them. dont have a lot of property but i can find the space for maybe 6 outside, 4 inside. i'll definitely try to extract them.

i guess i was just a little disappointed that the low yields i was expecting were even lower than i thought.

I love this idea, it'll be hard but can be done.

I would grow multiple plants and then run an extraction on each plant seperatly and keep the few that produced the best results. Then breed them and look for the best again. It could take a while, but you'd be doing the world a favor.

DNM arrests? Those are usually the dealers getting busted. Customers usually just lose stuff in the mail. It shouldn't be a problem especially for something as simple as salvia... As far as the marketplace here due to it being illegal you likely won't be able to utalize it. Again though if you travel to a neighbor state where salvia is legal you can get a PO box to receive some through the mail if you don't want to hunt it down.

maybe i'll give DNM a try. i'll be honest with you though, i've never used it, and i have no idea what kind of precautions i should be taking, or how to even access it. i've tried to buy BTC but that requires me to give up even more information than i'm trying to hide using tor.

VPN, tor, use public wifi, use an unregistered device, and buy BTC with cash and you should be good. You can use a BTC blender if you're really worried.

Jeez, that's a lot of work. Honestly I'd rather just drive to California and have it sent to me there.

This is not the place for dark web opsec. We are a gardening forum.

I think buying a plant via the dn is silly advice. You're better off finding a vendor who will ship to you, or a friend in a legal state. Join and participate in gardening forums, things tend to come your way in time. Patience.

yeah, that's kind of what i thought too. it's a little silly to resort to the dark web for something this harmless. i'm quite fond of growing things actually  i appreciate the invitation to the gardening forums, but what do you mean by that? on this site, or just in general? (not sure if you're telling me to go somewhere else, haha)

I'm not going into detail on how to do all that stuff just mentioning things to look into.... It's not like I haven't been on track with the topic.

Edit: Yes it's definitely stupid to have to go into the DNM for salvia hopefully a cutting as seeds are impossible to obtain from that variety... Ain't that a bitch?
