I.D request, Newfoundland
    #20247788 -

All I have right now is a webcam. I'll invest in a camera soon though ^_^,

Habitat: Disturbed lawn (my lawn lol) growing around (not out of) decaying dog poo. Sometimes growing along the sides of our walkway out of decaying grass but almost "hiding" away in the taller, green stuff.
Lawn was mowed a few weeks ago and it has rained alot. I is very warm and humid out today.

Just thoughts for now. I'll post the spore print tomorrow.

Gills: Brown

Stem: Light brown to dark brown. Kind of Shiny. Breaks easy.

Cap: Light brown to a kind of caramel "nipple". Light shines through in some parts near the edges of the cap when I held one to my light.

Spore print color: Will post tomorrow when It's done. (with pic)

Bruising: Dark brown/ Blackish (could be bluish, I don't have very good lighting in here XD.)

Location: West Coast Newfoundland, Bay of Islands (Corner Brook).

Notes: Non-cespitose growing habit. (They were spread out over the lawn. Just when I thought I'd never see another one, boom! Almost stepped on one.

I think it's in the Psilocybe genus. I won't know exactly what kind until I get the spore print. However I know that only 2 kinds of Psilocybe grow in newfoundland that resemble the ones I found. The Psilocybe Semilanceata. and Panaeolus cinctulus.

A Panaeolus sp. Spore print will confirm species. Unless someone else that's better with this genus wants to chime in first

Just dried 'em in the oven on both sides and stored 'em in a container with those "do not eat" packets you get with beef jerky. I won't eat any of them till I have enough for 5g dry weight. I won't know weather to eat or not till the print is done.

Also I was in Florida a few times but never when to the fortress.

My parents went to coral castle and the dry tortugas fortress. (They brought back a brick from the older fortress found under water while diving, along with other cool stuff like alligator jerky XD

Print update. While oven drying, I dabbed a few on a paper towel to remove excess moisture and noticed a black substance was left behind with the moisture from one of the older ones. I asked my artist sister what color she thought it was and she said "black, duh!" I still have alive cap on white paper dropping spores but it's taking a long time lol, overnight perhaps.

Should I dab a tiny little drop of water on top of the cap if it starts to get dry?

(Just noticed the mushroom mario eats to become larger is Amanita Muscaria... Then whats the green one? or the "fire flower"?! hahahah.)

You should normally leave a cap (under a cup or something to keep humidity high) overnight for the best results

Should I dab a tiny little drop of water on top of the cap if it starts to get dry?
that could help. but not too much. and keep it under something.

Will do boss
Also, I've been checking out the various noob cultivation guides and I was wondering... Would it be a good idea to buy a syringe of say "golden teacher" spores or some other kind and inject them directly into a a pile of BRF dumped on the ground around where I found these? As an experiment of course, just to see if they would grow at all. Or should I just stick to wild hunting for now?

You might want to read up on Outdoor Cultivation. Or maybe someone in the Cult section of the shroomery could help better with that question.

I am not a Trusted Identifier, but if the spore prints are black then I'd go with Pan. Cinctulus, which are active.  Personally, I have consumed 7 dry grams of them and had only a mild trip, but I have read others who have had full on crazy trips at as few as three grams.

In the future, take spore prints of ALL of the mushrooms. Different types will grow together, so you don't want to make any sort of mistake. It's entirely possible that you have a mixed collection of active and non-active Panaleous species.

Wait for a TI to confirm and post a picture of the spore print, ideally with a black sharpie marker line drawn around it to give a sense of "black".

Ah you were right, brown on most, black only on a couple out of more than a dozen. Meh, I was just curious. I realize now that webcams and fail lighting are insufficient for pics lol. Genus is fine for now, I won't eat 'em. I'll wait till the end of summer and in fall and hunt cow fields with my bud. He knows alot about the newfie shrooms around here.

Yea the black spore printing ones are def. active Pan cinctulus IMO.BTW you don't want to keep those in any type of closed container. I would just leave them out completely to air dry on a dry piece of paper. Once they are apparently completely dry then you could put them in something with the desiccant packet. I would say as much air flow around the while drying is best.
