Should I change my major? Opinionz plz

I'm on my 2nd half of sophmore year and I have thusfar found my current major (Bio-chem/physics) to be pretty easy and enjoyable.

The problem is I have yet to take calculus. Despite my teacher saying I needed calculus for Physics I managed an A- in it w/o much studying and college calc (I had highschool) knowledge. 

But for the next round of chem classes I have to take it (Even though I can do most of the problems Without it which is what pisses me off  :mad2:)

I took high school calc and got a B+ in it (low for me...I finished off with a 4.2)

And I tried to take calc and was averaging a C, so I dropped it.  I really don't know if this was my fault or the teacher's.

Not to be racist, but he was an asian with a very very heavy accent and to top that off he talked and "taught" at a very swift pace.  In fact, there was a joke that he was tweaked out when he taught. 

So Im thinking of changing my major to something cause I fear calc.  I don;t know if this is an irrational fear because I was NOT the only one to get a C or below in his class (in fact 80% of the class did)

I suppose it's worth noting that saying I majored in Calculus doesn't sound nearly as cool as I majored in nuclear engineering or Neo-Shakespearian dialect

wtf.. dont change your major over one class. Deal with a C if you have to. You can make up for it with your other classes.

Yeah that's what I'm probably going to do. I know I won't get higher than a B+ in it because I have a serious lack of interest in the subject. I can't even feign interest. It's so tedious and useless to me.

I guess it's my perfection complex. I go "omg not a C FUCK!"

Gotta knock that shit off :/

Screw it!  Just drop out of school.  After all, if its the easy route you are looking for thats the quickest way.  And think, in a couple decades you can be an uneducated, middle-aged manager at a fast food chain wondering where he went wrong.

Well biochem is a relativily hard major to complete. You'll have to take vigorous science classes and calc 1 and 2. My gf is just now completing here final semester. But good luck with it and keep at it. When you do take calculus try obtaining a well spoken english professor and not someone who learned it as a second language.

To be fair, fast food management is awesomely easy (I'm actually a cashier, but it's not like I've ever seen my boss do anything)

first semester calc in college is fucking rough, i know from personal experience. however, from there on in, if you are decent at maths, things get a bit easier. at least in my experience. so don't go fretting getting a C that first semester, just get through it with a good understanding of the material and it should be a bit easier from there.

Fair enough. How much money can one make as a manager at a fast food chain? I've always wondered if those people make a good living or not. Maybe it was not a good example. I just tried to think of a positon that no one aspires to.

Calc's not so bad in college. I had to take it too for Biochem, and it sucks, but whatever. You get over it.

No... you should drop out. Drink beer till you pass out everyday... and sometimes wake up long enough to down a few random pills or maybe snort a little coke so you wake up enough to get a little drinking in.

After a few years of this... write a song become famous and then die at 27.

I say stick with it.  You were smart enough to pick one of the hard sciences as a major.  I made the mistake of majoring in sociology. :nonono:

The difference between calc in highschool and calc in college:  in highschool, the teachers care if you pass.

college calc you're going to have to actually :gasp: crack open that book and read and  probably re-read stuff and do the problems and the whole nine yards.  I mean, it is a pretty complex and serious construction of math, it would be a sham if it were easy :wink:

i wouldn't let a calc class get in the way of what you want to do though.  let it motivate you.

You can teach yourself calc--it doesn't matter on your TA's accent.  You'll just need to put a bit more into studying. 

Math is universal.  Then again, bad teachers are bad teachers....

Suck it up, G.  If you want to go down that course of study, put the time in to learn it.  :foshizzle:

I just got through my first year of university calculus at UT for science majors. It was a hellish course and I actually had to work for the mediocre mark I ended up with, the class average was a solid 65 but things work out in the long run. No point in changing majors over something so trivial, but if you are a physics major calculus shouldn't be that much of an issue, the two do go hand and hand.
