A job in horticulture doesn't make much cash anyways. I may go back and give it another shot and get more involved and see if it helps.

I once had a decent paying job as an owner operator of a bread delivery route... if one could handle the work load, they could make 80,000 a year. No degree. It was just hard fucking work.

two degrees, halfway through a third. i love my job, and it only gets better. but i also have several friends with no degree, and they (mostly) all enjoy their jobs.

the enjoying part is much more important than the degree, but the degree will open up the choices, and improve the pay for certain. how about considering a degree that is mostly practical, become a skilled craftsman maybe?

I think part of whats making me feel wierd is my transition from trying to get off lorazapam and starting to take effexor, plus the heavy drinking I did last week. I should be ok in a couple weeks.

I've been on it for 2 weeks and a bit, so hopefully I start noticing good anti- anxiety effects mostly. I was using lorazapam for far to long, and it's going to be a bitch to get off it without widthdrawl symptons.

I dont have any type of degree, I have a community college cert. for Wilderness Leadership, basically a program designed for guides. I spent $5000 on that and didn't do anything with it when I came home. I got into gardening and starting trying to make that a new path for myself.
I found a local pest control company that worked with fruit and ornamental plants so I applied and got the job, the next year I got my Applicators cert from the local college and did that for 3 years.
This past fall I was unable to get unemployment, so I got a job at a local call center, taking 411 calls for the states. Its not a bad job, I only work part time and can survive alright on that.
This year will be the first of many grow seasons on my new farm though, a 10 acre parcel at my fingertips. Specializing in Ashwagandha and Cayenne pepper medical products. Things couldn't be better for me right now.

The hardest part is really finding your calling and then waiting and watching for things to unfold. I have been waiting 4 years for this to happen :sun:

Sorry for the life story

No degree here. I have a paramedic certification and a firefighter level 2 certification. I'm working as an EMT right now. It pays the bills and I could most likely make a living off of it, but I'll be damned if I can see myself at this job in 2 more years, let alone 20. Trying to persue a full time firefighting career.

I'm working towards an associate degree in fire technology right now. Taking a few classes to kill time. Only need a few more.

> This year will be the first of many grow seasons on my new farm ... Specializing in Cayenne pepper medical products.

That is freakin' awesome man!  I love peppers, and in fact have often played with the idea of starting up a serious pepper farm with the intention to bottle my own sauces.  Of course, the hot sauce market is very saturated at the moment - but I figure I could still do it on the side as a hobby sort of thing.

To the point of the thread; I attended two different universities, studied both psychology and business, and at the end of my third year made a quick decision to up and leave, move back to my home area and start my own business selling subwoofer speakers.  It helped that I had assistance with the financial backing, and so I've been in business for well over a year now, showing consistent growth with absolute minimal advertising and really the only cost being the cost of goods sold.  If you can find a good product, relate to your target market, and treat your customers well -- building a retail company isn't too difficult since word of mouth will do your promotion for ya!

School is cool though - makes it easy to meet new people for one thing!.. and of course it's always nice to have a driving motivation behind ya to keep you involved in the learning process.  Workin' solo and no longer bein' in school requires a heapload of discipline so that you may actually get work done instead of loungin' away the day in a haze of pot smoke :smirk:

I'll probably be going back to school in the next three years - if for nothing else, to meet some cool new people and mix up the pace a bit.

no degree here..........

started a business with family and as new aspects come up(hiring, logistics, etc) i just sort of take relevant classes at the local community college or work my ass off to learn what i need to......

i dont like to be 'tied down'....the freedom of how i chose to live my life seems to be both a blessing and a curse....i'd have it no other way though!

not living like a king, but can support myself at this time....if i had kids it would be a much different story...

as they say, rome wasnt built in a day.......and in the near future(with enough dedication) i see no reason to not be as well off or even better off than if i had gone and attained a degree of some sort......

No degree here, and I've been living the painful lesson of not having an education or a special skill for the past few years. Recently went back to school to earn a 4 year technical degree, and I love where it's taking me; had to develop brand new habits of self-discipline and motivation to survive some of the courses thus far. The feeling of having a hold on my life, while it may be an illusion, is nice nonetheless. College isn't for everyone, but it's all I've got right now, and I'm seeing it through to the end.

I have a BA in the liberal arts field and, in my opinion and experience, such degress as history, sociology, psychology, english are all pretty worthless unless you're staying within academia as a teacher or professor. Unless you have great work experience and know someone who'd hook you up with a job, you're just another liberal arts graduate (which is probably better than not having a degree, of course). Liberal arts degrees are lacking direction and are so common that they are not competitive anymore.

the industry that is booming is the medical field. look into tech certifications or even nursing - good money there.

I went to one year of college and all I did was party. I thought it was a waste of my time so I jumped back into the work force where I knew I could make OK money without a degree...construction.

I am finally in a position where the money is good (and getting better all the time) and I don't have to do the grunt work anymore. But it took me 20 years to work myself up to where I am. However, I have always loved construction and the hard work and early hours suited me well. Its a career path I wouldn't necessarily recommend for everyone but it has served me well and I love it. And I am finally beginning to reap the reward of 2 decades of hard work (and I do mean hard...even though I don't have to do as much physical labor as I used to I still do some and I usually work 60+ hours a week).

I don't have a college degree, just a high school diploma. I work in a restaraunt and make just enough to make ends meet. I enjoy my job and have no debt (which is a major fear of mine, and a big reason I didn't go to college). I would like to start my own business, or possibly go to a technical school, I can't imagine working as a cook forever. But I don't regret my decisions, I think I've learned plenty without school.

I'm working towards a double major in Geophysics and Geology. Maybe going to go for a PhD at the end, but I'm not decided yet.

Since going back to school for my specific field I've had two summertime job offers in my field of study. So that is promising, not to mention I know a Geologist in the industry who assures me there is a huge demand for people with my (soon-to-be) degree.

I'm loving University. I like the field I'm studying and I like the opportunities. If you can find something you enjoy I highly recommend getting a degree in it!
