Doesn’t really track since I don’t actually know the guy or his family.

We are all one. :mushroom2:

Yeah.

Well, I don’t know, he was one of the first "celebrity" musicians I knew about as a kid. First song I learned to play on guitar was Iron Man. Grew up with all the "Satanic Panic" shit, and gradually took in the entirety of his discography over the course of my adult life. And he had a whole second career as a sort of reality TV star/public figure. It was a little corny, but it kept him peripherally "in" my life all the while, with his voice still always somewhere on my playlist.

And unlike most celebrities/musicians/public figures, he always struck me as a genuinely real and nice dude who didn't get into any of the real sordid shit that most people in his position did. Ok, well, not always: as a kid, I believed he was possessed by the devil, and bit a real bat's head off on purpose, and glorified drug use, etc. But, it's like I spent my whole life learning more and realizing that was all just an overblown part of his public persona, then entered this phase where I'd be arguing with my wife about this sort of shit or whatever, and then, wham, he's gone. And even if Geezer wrote most of Sabbath's lyrics, it's still Ozzy's voice in my head. And oh, how they've aged like wine.

Anyway, I guess, like Lemmy, I FEEL like I knew him.

Either way, it's the end of an era, and a reminder that none of us are getting any younger.

I feel all that. Parents were scared shitless of Black Sabbath and Ozzy in general when I was a kid. But so many of Sabbath's songs were actually warning people about the dangers of drugs!

About a month ago we were listening to some music, and when "Lord of this World" came on, I made sure to point out to my gf that I always thought Ozzy was at his coked-up best during that era. Rest well, you madman.

It's always wild to me hearing about all the satanic panic stuff cause at the same time that was happening my dad was doing all the drugs drinking hard and cranking up sabbath and zeppelin. Different strokes for different folks I guess

I guess I was too young to remember this. I think this theory goes back to before recorded history. Seems like every so often I see something like this about the global elites.

Hail Satan.

I liked sabbath, but I always found it kinda disgusting that he put his kid's super cringy teenage years on TV for everyone to see.  I don't think young teenagers are capable of understanding that kind of exposure or the lasting effects of having your most cringe years preserved in detail on television/ the internet.  I always saw it as a moral failing of them as parents.

Big apes abusing little apes goes back further than homo sapiens.

Domination is never satiated.

Also, rest in piss Hulkster.  I hope Ozzy has fun torturing you in hell.

Agreed. The animal abuse stuff never sat right with me either. Still love his music though and his influence over all rock music that came after is undeniable

Yet Mr. Pigg e Supported that abusive using swine.

Regardless of asking for more answers or not.

Maybe paycheck was bigger. Yet at the same time bullshitting and lying
at the same time and excusing that as a joke from being too drunk or coked up isn't the same.

If you're talking about the bat thing, it was a dead bat that a fan threw onstage, and Ozzy assumed it was a rubber toy. Then bit into it and realized, oh shit, this is a real bat. (I guess it was a sick/injured bat that the fan's brother had brought home to try to look after a few days earlier, and then subsequently died.)

This WAS likely all an escalation from a part of his act where he'd throw offal into the audience. Understandable if that offends you, but I do think it a bit of a stretch to call using waste products from the butcher's shop as a prop animal abuse.

Like I said, I was a kid when this happened, and the media reporting on it was very different from the actual story. (And of course the legend of it continues to drown out reality.) I really thought he was this demonic bat-killing psycho, when he was probably just doing too much blow and making some questionable choices at that point in his career. Like putting stuff in his mouth that fans threw on-stage.

He did kill some doves in front of some record producers or something. I was looking into some of his history today too after seeing that post.

He definitely wasn't a perfect person, but he was willing to admit his mistakes and try to do better.  That's mostly what I gleaned from stuff I read.

He also used to get bullied badly in school.  Like SA level shit from older boys.  So, like a lot of folks who post here he was not perfect and had some trauma history.

Well he also went on to make light of it afterwards which is a bit lame but I get it. He also bit the head off a dove and something like an anniversary thing or a record contract deal. My memory is fuzzy on that one. And the time he snorted a line of ants while on tour with motley cruel. And there's also the time he was shooting a bunch of cats with a shotgun... still loved his music but he was something

OK, I vaguely remember the dove thing now, didn't know about the cats. Looks like it was a drug-induced psychosis type situation, and a real turning point in his life.

Anyway, lots of thoughts about all that, but not much point in going down that rabbithole here. Sufficed to say, I just think he's one of those people who either had all of his worst mental health moments happen rather publicly, and/or always talked openly about them and didn't try to cover anything up. I'll just say that I'm glad I'm not a public figure.
