I meditate about an hour a day, though I still unpredictably suffer from sleep paralysis, I think it's neurological, your body has to paralyze itself in sleep so that you are not thrashing and jumping about during your sleep, my brain is becoming conscious before my body has decided to turn off its paralyzing effects intended for the dream state, I probably would not mind so much, but often I can not breathe, and often I fear I may actually die, I'm not sure if this is an actual risk, but when it's happening there's very little reassurance that everything will be ok.
