Religion will never go extinct, it will just continually morphing into various compartmentalized and syncretic ideologies, just like it has been doing for thousands of years. What may occur is our explanatory and interpretive models for the world will soon become technological, materialistic, and reductionist -- a modern trend in the West.

That too will eventually become obsolete, assuming we're still around.
