Flip Flops???
    #12731263 -

I have never owned a pair of flip flops, ever. However, I've decided that that's going to change. I have tried on some reefs before and really liked them and have heard good things about that brand. But really, are they worth the 40-60 dollars? I don't loose things so it's not like I'll loose track of them. Are there any other good quality brands I should know about also, should I just grab a 5 dollar pair from target, suggestions about specific models? Thanks shroomery!

I got a $70 dollar pair of flip-flops some 3 years ago, and at the time I was dubious, but they've held up so well you can hardly tell they ain't new.
If you live somewhere warm, I don't see how you could regret investing in a nice pair of flip-flops.

I bought a pair of $40 Zealand's right before Bonnaroo '07.  They are the most comfortable things I have EVER put on my feet.  I love them.  They have since had the rear of the heel chewed up by my dog a couple years ago but not enough to be able to tell just by wearing them.  They're all I wear in the warm or semi-chilly months.

I also never wore flip flops until I bought those.  But I highly recommend them.  The first week of wearing them is kinda uncomfortable, just like any other type of shoe, but once they break in they are soooo amazing.

just go to the dollar store a flip flop is a flip flop in my opinion besides the ones from pacsun will last longer but are expensive vs the ones from the dollar store for a few bucks but they will tear up easier but hey there are a whole lot cheaper

Flip flops are the worlds most worn footwear (not shoes) and for good reason. A pair in the third world sets you back $1-2.

Havaianas brand are pretty good but way overpriced.

I recommend you to buy flops with broad straps as they give the most comfort when walking distances. Dont take very thick squishy soles for a walk because the added motion with each step will tire your feet.

In my view the ideal flops have:

-sole thickness about 1/2-3/4 inch with a smooth but mushy top but tough lower layer and profile underneath to prevent puncture and slipping
-straps are glued into the sole, not "riveted" with nubs because these tend to hurt your feet after some wear or may rip out with dynamic use (running etc)
-straps are wide, preferably of seatbelt typer woven material with smooth edges especially between footstraps and toestrap.
-contain no leather - not just for vegan reasons but also because these become slippery when wet and when wet too often the leather comes undone esp with salt water involved.
-are all black or otherwise modest in appearance as to not look flashy/trashy.
-do not cost friggin sixty dollars for a brand name.

All this is based on over 30 years of flip-flop experience from someone who wears them year round as "indoor shoes". (no I don't require my guests to take their shoes off when entering, its just what I myself do)

Cheap ones are not as comfortable.  I bought a pair at walmart last summer and ended up going back to my old chewed up ones.  They were nowhere close in terms of comfort.

And leather for sure.

I agree, Reefs generally are quite good as are Tevas excepting the ones that look like shit

But, these are genetally in the upper price range.

Wearing mushy Reefs now bought for twelve bucks last year from sale leftovers, they saw one year of use and are still fine.

Have fun dying you dirty dirty hippies

The flip-flop is the preferred summer shoe for many New Yorkers. But on city streets, the flimsy footwear can be deadly.

That film of grime that coats your feet at the end of a day of flopping around town is some dangerous dirt.

Lab tests of two reporters' flip-flops, worn for four days, revealed a potentially deadly germ - Staphylococcus aureus - lurking on the rubber.

Flip flops are pretty cool, I have a brand of adidas that I never thought I would wear, but I was wrong.  I like to use them when I just need to run outside for something and don't want the bottom of my feet to turn black.
On an off-topic note.  Is it rude to ask your guests to remove their footwear upon entering your home?  This question was inspired by Wiccan_Seeker>

Good thing I don't wear flip flops then

Just mentioning the hygiene issue with wearing them in a city that's all.
I was talking about it the other day.

Not sure really, I'll probably just buy from a store. Luckily, I have a PacSun factory outlet close by so I'll probably pick up a pair similar to the ones JT linked. Thanks for all the responses!

I go through a 5 dollar pair of flipflops twice a year, because I wear them year round. The only time I don't wear flip flops around is when I am on the job or hiking on rough uneven terrain.

In the hawaiian islands, a flip flop is referred to as a slipper, although it should always be pronounced "slippa"
