Watkins Glen 1973
    #3351310 -

Anyone hear the story of the sky diver who jumped with dynamite over an Allmans show not realizing that he would fall the same speed as the dynamite, and blew himself up over a couple 100,000 people?

lol

 :rotfl:  :rotfl:

I wonder if anyone got a picture of his chunks raining down on the crowd?

What a dumb ass.  He obviously failed science in highschool.

Sounds like a nominee for the darwin awards.

Dynamite(small package) has less drag than a human body.... It should fall way faster!

That's what I learned in highschool....  :smirk:

If you drop a pen and a bowling ball at the same time, they will hit at the same time.

Surface area and weight both come into play.

Gravity pulls all things toward the ground at 9.8 m/s/s.

A rock would fall the same speed as a person as well.  Aerodynamics come into play though, if he would have speared toward the ground he could have shot past the dynamite... but what kind of idiot doesn't move when a large chunk of dynamite is falling right next to him..  Sounds like he deserved what he got out of stupidity.

My sig finally has application.  Stupidity really did hurt that day.

I thought this was only in a vacuum.

outside of a vacuum wind resistance would affect which object hit first.

it is, but the resistence still isnt significant

It may, physics weren't ever my strong point whatsoever.

  Maybe I should keep my mouth shut sometimes

True, but only if there is no atmosphere(=no aerodynamic drag).

I study Aerospace Engineering and I've studied Aerodynamics and Mechanics till I almost died  :smirk: Trust me

5) Summer Jam at Watkins Glen - over 600,132 people
A huge hippy concert called Summer Jam was organized and held on July 28th, 1973 at the Grand Prix auto circuit in Watkins Glen, New York. Although tickets were available for purchase, a dirty hippy named Artie Wilson spread a rumor that ?this jam is free!? So that being said, every stinking, bearded, draft-dodging, toothless loser from coast to coast headed to Watkins Glen. The Grateful Dead opened the show by playing for five hours ? with two of those hours being a freaking drum solo. The Allman Brothers, and the Band also played for hours on end. There were naked chicks everywhere. Gregg Allman allegedly fathered three children at the show. The best part, however, was when a dirty hippy decided to make a grand entrance by parachuting into the show. He jumped from the plane holding a stick of lit dynamite that he tossed as he jumped. He thought the boom would make people look up. He forgot that the dynamite fell at the same rate of speed ? right next to him. It blew him to bits and showered the crowd with ?shredded hippy parts!? Good times indeed.

So is it possible that it happened, or did it truthfully happen?

IF the falling man was wearing a parachute, the 'chute should have kept him from reaching terminal velocity as he fell... that's what they're designed to do... create enough drag that you can fall and land somewhat safely. So although they would initially reach the same speed at the same time... once he open his chute his descent would have slowed drastically and the stick would have kept falling.

But if the dummy held onto the thing the wholte time it would still blow up in his face. Or if he didn't deploy his chute before the bang....

But something had gone wrong up there for
one of the chutists. Seconds into his freefall, one of the skydivers' flares
prematurely exploded and ignited his garments. Helplessly falling downward, the
diver managed to open his chute as the flames engulfed his suit and body. It was
a terrible way to die.
