Fruiting Troubleshooting

Hello!

First Time poster, long time reader of these amazing forums. Thanks for taking a look at my post.

So I have been following Bods 2017 TEK almost to a tee, from spore syringe to the bulk substrate phase of my first mushroom grow. I have had no problems up until now. The mycelium appears to look healthy and has completely engulfed my tub. However, it's been nearly a month now and I haven't seen any fruiting.

I would love any feedback to what I may be doing wrong or if my grow looks unhealthy?

The conditions:

Species: Golden Teacher

Start Time: I started my inoculation on 9/26/2026 (almost 30 days from the day of this post) of the bulk substrate.

Temperature Range: 67F - 79F (varies as it's just in a bedroom), typically around 75F

Substrate: just Coconut Coir that I followed BODs TEK to make. Shown in pictures!

Setup: I started with a pretty wet substrate, and flipped the lid of my tub upside down with no direct lamp, just room lights. Throughout the time of growth, the tub has stayed very moist and so i have only needed to mist once or twice. I have removed the lid many times to check on the growth but only momentarily. I also have used paper towels to dab out built up water on the sides of the substrate.

last week (6 days ago) I added a grow light at 6500K 12 hours on 12 hours off to see if that would initiate fruiting. No dice. The picture I have shown of my tub is how it sits now. I have created a rather large crack in the lid to see if introducing more air would help. This has only made water evaporate quickly and I have had to spray water more these past couple of days.

Cubes don't require a casing layer for fruiting. But this may just be the situation where a non nutritious casing like layer of coir might help. I say give that a try. Good luck!

Massive tight-knit mycelium.

It wants a good casing layer.  Hopefully its not too meshed that it's water-resistant now

What was you spore to agar to grain process like? And do you have any pictures of your spawn or agar plates?

Hello, Thanks for the reply!

I was careful to follow the steps laid out in BODs 2017 TEK for all the steps inoculating the agar plates with a spore syringe and making the grain spawn using whole oats as recommended by BODs TEK. I don't have picture of agar plates handy right now but here was my spawn jars right before dumping them into my bulk substrate!
