Anyone else here a Ska fan? Shit just gets me going when I feel like shit.
Listening to streetlight manifesto and op ivy this morn. Anybody got any good newer ska to post? Is there much of a ska scene left anymore?
I just love the contrast between the brass and bass line. Makes the music feel much more full compared to music that doesnt touch the higher frequencies.

I used to be a huge ska fan. Was really into Street Light, Op ivy, Big D and the Kids Table, Catch 22, Supervillians.
I listened to so mmuch of it that I sorta killed it for myself, ended up getting really bored of the sound and especially the scene. Thats actually what killed it for me, I really started to hate the pop punk/ska scene, was full of straightedge teens.
Overall the ska is pretty fantastic, really up beat and I love the layer of brass over the punk

I love Tommy mccook, skatalites, and few others from that era.
Not really into modern ska, though not all are bad. Allentons are ok.

I seen big d and the kids table in the summer at a local bar. Good stuff.
Funny your comment on straightedge. I was sort of into straightedge scene at the time too.(2004ish maybe).
I've been trying to find some good newer stuff to no avail. Looking for some help.

Try this bad boy from East London
There's quite a dub / ska / reggae scene here .

Yeaa I've got a couple of friends who sorta used to be straightedge but they realized how ridiculous that whole scene was. Don't get me wrong, if you don't have an interest in doin drugs, thats completely chill by me, it was just how pretension the majority of the straightedge people were that bothered me.
But ya, I'm still a huge BD&TK fan, I've seen em quite a few times, always a good time.
Have you heard Less Than Jake, Mustard Plug, Royal City Riot, Planet Smashers, they're all pretty cool. I'm less familar with first and second wave ska. Only first I know is skatalites and the only second wave ska I'm really familiar with are The Beat and Madness

I was never a big promoter of straightedge, but it fit with me at that time since I was young and fresh out of rehab. Less than jake and planet smashers are good. LTJ is fun live. Havent heard of royal city riot, I'll check them out.
The specials is a great old school ska band. They still tour too, checked them out 2 years ago. Fucking awesome.
