That makes no sense. Use your head for a second.

How could light be faster than the expansion of the universe? If that were true that means we have a boundary and we do not have a boundary. The universe is infinte which means it is either expanding at the SAME RATE or even faster.

Having no boundary does not necessarily imply that it is infinite.  In fact, thats the current idea - the universe is finite and unbounded.  :crazy2:

Hm interesting concept.

Like a rubber band effect? It can continue to stretch and keep on stretching?

It makes sense if you see it like that. Being compressed would be at rest and the expansion would be the pulling

Honestly I don't know shit. I'm just a mere human on this earth trying to understand my own existence let alone the whole universe.

so blackholes are where the rubber band is breaking or something if we are turning it rubher:rasta:

that vid about the multiverse theory just blew my mind.. very nice. this seems like the link between soul and body. like when the body loses something like 21 grams of weight after death, and dark matter can be verified because it has gravity.. i need to sit down and think on this a little. i only have a high school education, but love to think about things like this. very cool stuff. thanks!

uhhh... dark matter.. there is little evidence that exists.. dark matter is the missing mass in the universe n it cant be seen by light so wouldnt that be a black hole..

Thats a good question, but a black hole would not generally be considered dark matter.  You cannot see light from a black hole because it bends space-time to such a large extent that light can't leave its vicinity.  You cannot see light from dark matter because it does not interact with electromagnetism and thus cannot emit or reflect light.  Light gets trapped by a black hole and simply passes through dark matter.

Ha, ignorance can sure be frustrating and is certainly not bliss.  But that 'eureka!' moment where the veil of ignorance is cast off, no matter how small, is one of life's great pleasures.  I guess sometimes learning can be funner then knowing (a convenient position to take since we all know we cant know it all).

thats whats gay about life.. we cant know everything because we forget. n in order to know everything.. we'd have to remember it all in the present, simutanously for the rest of our lives. which is impossible..

No.

Our universe is in 3 dimensions. (Okay, not really, but for the sake of argument let's say it is.)
Pretend that instead, it is in two. What would it mean for a two dimensional universe to be finite but unbounded?
Simple: just picture an ant crawling around the surface of a beach ball. The ball is floating in mid air for some reason.
The ant analogy isn't perfect, because ants are of course 3D, but I think you see what I'm trying to get at here. The ant is able to crawl in its two-dimensional space -- it can go forward and back, left and right, but not up or down (at least not without "leaving the universe," ie, falling off the beach ball; that move is not allowed).
Do you see how the ant's world is finite but unbounded? The ant can crawl for as long as she likes and never once encounter a boundary ... but the space it's walking in is NOT infinite. The ball has a finite surface area -- therefore this ant's universe is of finite size.
This shape doesn't have to be a ball. It could be a donut, a mobius loop, whatever.

We are that ant, but in a three dimensional space instead of two. Obviously we can't see the "curve," because it is in a dimension outside our perception -- but as far as I understand it, cosmologists basically all agree that this is the way things are.
Make sense?
