I am not happy kirk got shot but I also am not happy that the white house put the flag half mast when they didn't for carter and it is reminiscent of the pardons and push to white wash jan 6.  It wasn't lowered for the Virginia politicians that were killed.  They went back and forth on maccain with the flag.

For me it went like this...
They killed Charlie it's civil war time we gotta string up some lefties ----> No wait, lefties are celebrating it and getting fired, that's good -----> wooohooo Jimmy Kimmel got fired for saying something about Charlie Kirk ----> No wait he got taken off the air because he sucked at his job ---> Hasan Piker and Destiny call for violence all the time, arrest them ----> Israel killed Charlie ----> no that's stupid, Charlie was Zionist ---> Lots of Zapruder style breakdowns of the shooting video

Flags were flown at half mast for carter for 30 days as tradition, except one day, inauguration day. This was the first time inauguration day happened during a presidential mourning period and trump order them to full staff for that day.

Honestly 30 days is way too much.

Jan 6 was a mostly peaceful protest.

Not sure what virginia politicians you are referencing.

McCain was a war monger who never saw a country he didn't want to bomb.

The thirty days is in the flag code.  The till burial is the tradition.  Trump does not care about tradition unless pushed really hard.  Having to push hard gets his point across as to respect he shows and to who.

So far, trump is threatening canada, panama, greenland, panama.  He is siding and his people sometimes voting with russia and north korea. He has threatened mexico, venezuela and brazil and has bombed iran and the houthi.  Not a discussion of the right and wrong of each though joining the axis of evil is not good but thinking trump is not a war monger would be rich.

Many people are so immature that listening to Charlie makes them furious.

You live in a microscopic bubble if you just heard of him 6 months ago.

Charlie did what he did, and said what he said because he was furious over ideas that differed from his ideas.

I didn't know who Charlie Kirk was until he died.

We know we've reached the highest level of hatred when we react to someone's voice with disgust & revulsion.

I sound the 911 emergency when I reach that level of hatred.  Hatred can feel good and can be hard to give it up.

His reaction to that south park episode was really hard to watch...

He was clearly bothered by it, and you can hear it in his tone of voice.

Many people feel terror at the proposition of abandoning their hatred.

Your whole identity can be rooted in labeling people as bad or evil

Some people are bad and evil.  Most have a mix but label the bad is the first step to improvement.

oh, yes. i'm a "hater" because i choose not to hate-watch something that i know immediately i wouldn't like. flawless logic.

i'm saying i didn't know what his politics were beyond that they were conservative. his voice was annoying to me and i knew that i wouldn't like him. so why the fuck would i listen to him?

i listen to other conservative media. mainly from veterans. i think Jocko Willink is badass and i watch his podcast all the time.

There's so many weird sub-layers of internet-ness to this event.

I have a pretty lefty social-media algorithm feed... it is full of people denouncing violence while saying they disagreed with kirk. Not full of people happily cheering.

Makes me wonder what a right-winger's feed is feeding them?

They were told what the Republican right wing media tells them to think.
Which is that all of the Democratic party immediately had a blood orgy feast to celebrate the murder of Kirk.

Because it's easier to throw rocks at something that's been dehumanized.

Republicans are crybaby hypocritical liars that are using this is an opportunity. They couldn't fucking care less about Charlie Kirk getting shot in the neck. This is just another opportunity to steal more of our freedom away from us. That's why you didn't see any Democrats actually celebrating this.

They were waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Then a bunch of pre-programmed fucking idiots come out and start screaming at Democrats that they were celebrating it.

Not even seeing how very convenient that would be for the authoritarian government.

Don't forget the Republicans love making fun of Democrats everytime they get attacked or assassinated.

They think that shit's funny…

So whenever you see your Republicans talking about what a tragedy this is.

Just remember that this person laughed at Nancy Pelosi's husband getting assaulted with a hammer because they're a piece of shit that's lying to you right now.

I think the most eye opening part of all of this for me is seeing how many people essentially use these talking head grifters as their personal gurus, idolize them and consume endless amounts of their content

Not just on the right, but seeing all the ones on the left pop up in the youtube algorithm too, and how much engagement they're getting

Then you click any of the videos and it's all just culture war bullshit and ragebait. That's what tens of millions of people are getting pumped into their heads constantly, on top of all the boomers and their cable news brain drains

It seems like none of the popular ones talk much at all about actual policy and actual things people can do to better the political landscape and push for better policy/less corruption. Just absolute nonsense, and from everything I've seen Kirk was amongst the worst of the worst offenders
