What I remember from my pot-smoking days is it didn't so much increase my appetite as much it just made food taste better.  It did for my sense of taste what ecstasy does to my sense of touch.

If I smoke and im already too full it makes me feel very uncomfortable.

What I think more than anything is at play here is that cannabis makes you notice things about your body that you may be blocking...you notice the subconscious stuff.

Sometimes I wont have eaten all day and ive gone so long without eating that i no longer think Im hungry. In an aspect ive deluded myself. As soon as i partake I notice Im hungry again.

In the same token if Im already stuffed and I get high Im more apt to notice that my stomach is being stretched out of shape uncomfortably and that my blood is being sent to digest food.

well this is what i believe that pot induces when you take a dose.. this is not an article but from my understanding of it..

Orexin, in lab mice that lack this gene exhibit the effects of narcolepsy. it is also linked to the craving for food meaning if the rat is lacking this gene will make the rat just not want to eat anything.

to my belief, marijuana stimulates these chemicals and releases them therefore making you tired and hungry which makes perfect sense to me.

and also, with stimulants.. it seems to surpress this chemical therefore making you stay awake and less hungry.

idk makes sense to me :shrug:

My personal theory would be that as you start to sober up your brain merely wants more dopamine/serotin, hence the desire to eat.

It doesn't trigger my appetite.  Actually, I am a bit atypical when it comes to this.  When I toke, I tend to stay away from food because I know it will kill the buzz.  It does enhance the taste of food though.

Lots of different theories, but yes it indeed does make you hungery.
How and why is different for every user.
Also relative to the bud type.

THC downregulates leptin activity which functions as a satiety signal so yeah it makes you physically hungry.

Also what many of you may find interesting is that  cannabinoid activity is reduced through the satiety signals induced by leptin release. So if you just smoked your last joint do go eating straight away.

Why would that mean it makes you physically hungry? As opposed to what? Mentally hungry? Dunno...but hunger is a psychological mechanism regardless of the neurochemistry behind it.

i disagree. our psychology is based upon neurochemicals and electromagnetic waves. I guess its better to say that it makes us physiologucally hungry.

I did an experiment, I made a plate with a portion of food I knew I couldn't possibly finish. I ate about 4/5ths of it, then left the rest. my stomach being full, I couldn't eat another bite. so I went out and smoked a few bowls.


I come back inside, and now am blasted. Before going to smoke, I figured I'd come back hungry and finish the rest. this wasn't the case, I was already full and couldn't eat anymore. well, 20 minutes later, I start getting the munchies, so I go to the kitchen and decide I want to eat more, but before I can take another bite, I realize that I am full and can not anymore.


so it is TRUE, of course that psychologically it gives you the munchies. no one would deny this, as everyone who has smoked ever can confirm this.


BUT, it is not true, that it gives you a physical appetite, only a mental one.


So CONFIRMED, but at the same time, BUSTED

Aids patients have been using it for years to stimulate appetite. It is a fact that it makes people hungry.

good point. i used to starve myself and then i started smoking weed. it wasn't an instant cure, i still didn't eat for a while but i gradually got over it. not only did smoking pot make me want to eat, it made me realize how awful/superficial i was treating myself. all hail the pot!!
