Thanks man, appreciate it. AI has gotten so much hate recently. People get so riled up over it. It's simultaneously the worst thing that's ever been created yet also the most ineffective thing ever built.

I'm not going to post in the general discussion topic about it anymore because it's the wrong place, but I also don't feel like creating a thread elsewhere just to have a knee-jerk reaction discussion. So instead I'll post my thoughts here:

People were against nuclear weapons and technology, to the point where development and research in these areas were stifled for corporate interests.

Yet it's undeniable that this research led to advancements in medicine and power generation, and also acted as a deterrent for mass scale wars that were frequently happening in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

All the coal and LNG power plants that have been built since the 50s are a direct result of this anti-prolifferation propaganda. Had nuclear power technology not received the hate it did, advancements would've come quicker and we could've had clean energy instead of atmosphere poluting power plants. The world is now facing a crisis as a direct result of these policies.

I look at the hate on AI in a similar way. Sure the technology is being used in a shit way right now, but that's often how technological developments start.

Just because we're using AI to paint pictures and replace customer service agents doesn't mean that the underlying knowledge gained from these applications won't be useful some day.

I just wonder what future problems won't be solved because of what is essentially pearl clutching.

At it's core, humans gaining knowledge is a good thing. As long as we're not torturing people to get it, I have a hard time looking at any type of learning as inherently bad.

That's what I mean by Anti-AI is Anti-Science
