You know, having been a Nine Inch Nails fan since first hearing Downward Spiral in 1993/4 when it was new-- my first serious high school girlfriend played me the album straight through, and I swear it was a single CD that changed the direction of my entire life (and so did she). The girl holds an eternal place in my heart, but her time in mine was short. Trent Reznor has remained in permanent residence-- even as my age and perspective change the ways his music is magnetic to my life. Thank you for the post-- I found myself feeling very much the same as you with respect to his masterpieces, his moderated middle-ground pieces, and his miscellaneous pieces of...experimentation. I love the guy for his amazing creativity through it all, the PHM/TDS are cornerstones of my adult development in music. Great post--
