For what you said quite nicely of metaphysics
10/20/09 09:43 PM

well put:
"Metaphysics is important because we so often operate on unreflective metaphysical assumptions.  Metaphysical assumptions are implicit in much of what we do, including science, and if we are unreflective about those assumptions, then they can lead us into great error."

To make a long story short, you made a good point about drug addiction etc.

My best friend and I were very close all throughout our teenage years, after high school I moved away and he became addicted to smack.  He smoked crack and shot up for maybe a year and a half, selling drugs as well to try and provide for his toddler son.  To both of our surprises, his life turned around at a Christian rehab center.  he is an ardent believer now and a happily married, healthy father.  he doesn't even smoke cigarettes.

Religion, specifically Christianity, did this for him.  'a belief that he is not defined by his sins'

fuck fundamentalist atheists

anyways, 5 stars to you

Universal Health Care

I want it because we have one of the most expensive, inefficient, dysfunctional healthcare systems in the developed world, and I'm tired of our country lagging behind the rest of the world in such an important aspect.
To the OP:  Universal healthcare is not the same as socialized medicine.  Universal healthcare simply means that everyone is covered.  Single-payer means the government covers everyone under a single insurance plan, but doctors still work privately.  A public option, as is being discussed, means that people can opt into a single-payer plan, or they can choose to keep their current insurance. Socialized medicine is where doctors are actual government employees.  Many intellectually dishonest conservatives use the scare tactic of associating any universal healthcare plan with socialized medicine.  In case you haven't figured it out by now, that's bullshit.

Thank you for being able to express a logical and well thought out statement that isn't just some regurgitation of right wing propaganda.
