Shape of contamination
      01/06/24 07:36 PM

Hey all! I've been watching this plate, it's an attempt at cloning a dry fruit I like. More of an experiment really, but who knows.. maybe I can salvage some of that puffy white myc with water agar.

My questions has to do with that beautiful layered structure.. I know this plate is pretty contaminated, as expected. I often get this thin overall bacteria spreading around my clones. It's very thin, colourless, almost like a watermark, does that ring any bell?

But the layered thing.. I'm wondering what causes it.. trying to get some understanding how contaminations and mycelium fight for resources. Could it be that the myc is trying to spread quick and thin and keeps fighting the bacteria? Are these layers "battlefronts"? Or is it just the bacteria reacting to its environment (air, temperature fluctuations maybe)?

Any input would be nice to hear. Thanks!
