The true "Alice in Wonderland" experience
      04/20/04 05:18 PM

At the AZ gagthering last weekend I finally learned what it was like to be Alice.

Think about Alice in Wonderland for a second.  Alice was not really fucked up herself.  And her surroundings were not all that strange (mostly just set in the woods).  But what made Wonderland so extraordinary was the cast of crazy/bizzare/insane characters that she interacts with throughout the tale.

Well, when we arrived at the gathering on Friday night I made the descision to avoid all drugs just for that night.  I allowed myself to drink beer (which I ended up drinking a lot of in the long run) but that was it.  Once the party started and all the drugs everyone was taking began to kick in it started to get really entertaining.  I soon realized that I was much like Alice, trapped in a land full of psychotic characters from which there was no escape.

And everyone was there.  The Mad Hatter (40oz), The Cheshire Cat (Senor_Doobie),  Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum (oDin and Annie), The White Rabbit (Vamp), The Queen of Hearts (Irijes),  The King of Hearts (ninetynine),  The two cards who were "painting the roses red" (Wrestler_AZ and his bro Clear Eyes), the mouse at the tea party (Dustin),  Alices "croquet mallet"/the floppy flamingo (muppet),  the croquet ball (vivid), the flowers in the forest ('nameless' girls from Phoenix, you need some Shroomery accounts!),  the Queens security detail (silversoul, taco, calbha, dankman).  OK, now I'm  just running out of characters and trying to get names in this post....but you get the idea.

But has anyone here ever tried being in a setting like that?  In a secluded place where everyone except for you was doing large amounts of drugs?  It just got funnier and funnier as the night progressed.  And as I got drunker it was just that much better.  I was so much the outsider that night being the "sober" (not counting the beer) person at the party.  But just like Alices experience everyone found it nessecary to interact with me at times.  And each person was like some bizzare character out of a fairy tale.  What I thought would end up being a boring night turned into one of the most hillarious parties I've been at.

By the time the sun came up I had an entirly new perspective on the story of Alice in Wonderland.  You see, Alice was sober, and she wasn't dreaming, it was just that she stumbled upon a Shroomery gathering in the middle of the night!
