These are pictures of two agar plates with mycelium of P. Cubensis McKennaï from spores. The first one was inoculated 19 days ago from a sector of these spores that showed good growth. The second one was inoculated 8 days ago. Inoculation of both took place in a SAB. Both agar plates are based on the same recipe: 39% grainwater, 60% water, 1% honey. I also used the first plate to inoculate liquid culture that showed a vigorous growth. These samples caused some damage on the agar surface below in the first picture. Both pictures are taken with natural light. The first one without the cover, the second one with the cover (so the picture is vague). When I inoculated the second one from the first one 8 days ago, it showed the same type as the second one: good growing mycelium with an amber center and white/purple ring. The mycelium seems to darken the color of the agar over time to brown. The past week the first agar plate showed a strange change. The grow of the mycelium stopped and didn’t reached the end of the agar. A ring of black dots appeared on the outer ring. On the inside of the ring yellow/orange dots appeared like toppings on a pizza. The question of course is, are these plates contaminated? My hypothesis is that the black and yellow dots are primordia that dry out dependent of the conditions. But if so, what is the reason of these colourful plates?
