I edited my response before you posted as I failed to word what I wanted to say correctly. So there's other points there. I disagree, I see us as acting as a supreme form of organic computing. Many subroutines, many processes, many inputs and outputs running through different levels and stages with data stored as energy running across it all, just like silicon. The supreme part being is that our processing is not restricted to binary and our I/O's are much more complex. We constantly acquire more data and turn that into information, then use that information to apply to other processes. Just like a computer, short term data and often used data is ready to be called upon instantly, and less used data requires more effort to recall. We are astoundingly like computers in this way. The real illusion is that we believe we are completely in control when in fact we are acting the things we think about, literally. Even though we make decisions based around what we think from the sum of available information we act in the way that is qualitative of the information we are processing. They've done experiments on people and got them to do crosswords where the answers to one set of questions is polite and the answers to another offensive. The latter group behaved rudely towards the researchers but were unaware of it at the time. Possibly this is why people have religious and spiritual experiences. If you're thinking about things then they manifest as part of your experience. We don't choose that, we just do it. That is the illusion of choice and the root of the phrase "change your mind, change your world". It's not about changing conclusions, it's about changing mental processes that lead to unchosen outcomes. But that does not forego decisions. I'll try to stop derailing my own thread now.
