Quote: You know I realized recently that I've been training to do my job my whole life. I am a geospatial location specialist for commercial insurance. I find buildings and structures that range from college dorms to sewerage lift stations using your basic web searches, county/city government graphics maps, and ofc primarily google maps and the street view. Google beinng the super company it is has the best and most up to date images. I didn't think of it as a skill. To 1. Visually locate and understand buildings/structures from the air 2. Know the cardinal directions 3. Be able to orient a ground view from a air view But I've done loads of presentations and trained my coworker on it. Most of them don't get it. My coworker still doesn't get it. The only one I've talked to that seemed to get it was a dude that went to school for geospatial technology. I didn't. But I figured out what it was that taught me to be a visual mapping god.. GTA in large part. Driver 2, Need For Speed, all them racing games. Fallout, Skyrim, and COD and Rainbow 6 are more recent examples. But I've been learning map to ground coordination since my Super Metroid days. If they ever let me get a new person on the team I'm gonna ask to have a pre-interview with them... And ask if they played video games. Shit if I could I'd advertise for them too "Low Key Nerds Wanted" -------------------- Free time is the only time
