I just recently had my first contamination on a spore-swiped plate and it was green mold that began as a little satellite at the very edge of the dish. I think the contamination is always going to be more common at the edges by virtue of design. At first I waited till the plates fully colonized before I dropped them. I used to think of the mycelium as kind of a shield for the agar. But now I simply see the agar as a delivery mechanism for the mycelium. I've even thought about just swabbing spores onto the plates and then dropping the agar in before seeing any growth at all to see what happens. -------------------- The Shmuvbox. - The Old TC's Like it ![]()
