My brother was over the sheep, but I was master of the ground. In time, I brought bounties of the ground, an offering of metal and grain. My brother offered the firstlings of the flock and the fat thereof. The LORD had pity unto him and his offering: But unto myself and my offering he had not respect. I grieved, and my trust waned. The LORD said unto me, why art thou low? and why thy brightness dimmed? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? I spake unto my brother, when we were in the field, that I fell upon him, to prove the power of the earth's metal. The LORD said unto me, where is thy brother? I said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper, for he is no sheep? he said, what hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. now art thou cursed from passage to the earth, which opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be over the earth. I said unto the LORD, my punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; from thy face shall I be hid; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond; it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me, I shall see that they do slay me. the LORD said unto me, therefore whosoever slayeth you, my vengeance be on him. The LORD set a mark upon me, lest any finding me should kill me. I went from the LORD. I dwelt in the lands of Indus, on the far east of my homeland. I found and knew Lil'ktu and she bare my son.
