My favorite story is one I learned in Psy 101 at Umass Dartmouth. It's a true story and it goes... An anthropologist (Colin Turnbull) was studying a tribe of jungle people who had lived their lives in a dense forest. They lived without ever having to look out as far as the eye could see because of the thick back drop of endless trees. The anthropologist decided to take a tribal member to a nearby town so they got into his jeep and left the jungle. Along the way they came to a very long dirt road at the end of which was a herd of cattle grasing. The tribal person was showing signs of anxiety. His symptoms worsened as they continued down the road. Finally he began to scream in horror. See to him these cows had been ants that were some how growing. This was the moment scientists discovered we are not born with the understanding of depth perception. It is a learned ability! Many perceptions are leaned abilities. Are you experienced?
