It might be dried out. I always put a wax paper cover on uncased trays right when they go into the FC. I'm assuming you left it with too much air exchange & no way for the sub to retain moisture. (Too much FAE meaning it dried out the sub, not that you are doing it too much)
Not sure if a dunk would aid it. Pics would help.

i thin that is a sign of your sub being to dry. whats your humidity? how often do you mist?

I'm gonna go with too dry, tho it's not pulling away from the edge of the tray. Of course, it may simply have been too dry to begin with & as the myc colonizes it is using up the water.
Is this your first time with trays? I've found that those moving from BRF to bulk subs often err on the side of making it too dry... I like my field capacity dripping on a 'light' squeeze...

Actually yeah, this is my first tray. I squeezed it pretty hard, so I'm guessing that was the problem. So it should be moist enough so that drops will come off with a light squeeze? Does it matter how moist it is if you're planning on casing (since my cased one is working out fine)?
How should I go about dunking it? Just run tap water in the tray, weight down sub, and wait 12 hours or so?

1. Ok - that explains it. Everyone has a floating definition of field capacity. Personally, I like some drops with a light squeeze, and several nice streams with a tight squeeze. That's me. Others will tell you to make it dryer.
Your cased tray held in the moisture better. Every time you fan you are pulling moisture off of the tray. If you had put wax paper over this tray when you put it into the FC, you might be in better shape. The wax paper serves to hold the moisture in just like a casing does.
2. Dunking - I'm no expert, but yea, that sounds about how you do it.

Oh, and if you go the wax paper route, make sure you change it every few days. It gets moist and can mold.

Any idea if parchment paper works? I've just been using it as a substitute since it's similar. It might absorb a little more moisture than wax, but light seems to be able to penetrate the paper still.

Just check it after a few days... if it's real moist it might not be ok (absorbing too much water). Wax paper after 3 days is kinda limp, but not real damp (if that makes any sense... )
