Pins! =)

So I've recently birthed 7 cakes of PF classic and Cambodian strain.
After 5 days, I've got 3 little pins on one of the cakes and the others are looking fuzzy.
Is that normal? Any better/cheap way to maintain humidity rather than a spray bottle? and how much should I be spraying it? I need a hygrometer..

Congrats on the pins! Fuzziness is normal, my cakes did that for a couple days before they pinned. What is your fruiting chamber setup?

I use an aquarium air pump. In the corner of my fruiting chamber I place a cup of water that I put the air hose (with bubbler on tip) in. I still fan, rarely need to mist though.

Any perlite or anything? I don't see how that alone could maintain humidity over 95%.. You got a hygrometer in there for verification?

Sorry, yes. Thank you. I also have a layer of perlite. I kinda bury the cup of water in it in the corner.

My bad. My chamber is pretty simple, its just a large 32gallon or something tote, with a 2-3'' layer of perlite that was rinsed very very well before I used. Then i cut a hole through the top about 12''x10'' and thats wrapped in layers of seran wrap for some air flow, and I have holes in the sides.
*Edit- I also have a 25w flourescent light that i use about 12 hours a day.
Normally I just mist it and try to get the finer water particles to float into the setup rather than have the droplets build up.
Will perlite keep the humidity high enough without misting do you think or do you think Im misting it too much by misting once or twice a day?

^^That sounds pretty good but I do have a question: I'm having trouble visualizing your FC, you have multiple layers of saran wrap covering the holes? Is saran wrap breathable?
As for the humidity, sounds pretty good. It wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a humidity gauge, it will make it much easier to maintain ideal conditions and give you a little piece of mind. Sounds like you are doing fine though, just remember to keep the perlite moist and fan every time you mist(before you mist, of course). gl

Haha basically I had limited time and material so instead of using like acrylic or something on the top, I wrapped it in saran wrap so I dunno if it breathes or not really..
Got some more pins today though =) only a few tho

So I got a few pics of the pinnage. I'm still not hot with my camera's macro setting yet so sorry if they're a bit blurry. This is after 5 or 6 days.

Looking normal? They all look like aborts right now, and the caps on all of them are REAL dark, but maybe I'm just a little anxious for my magic..=P

Patience, lots of it.
And unless that pic was taken just after misting, remember to fan hard after misting to get rid of those droplets.

- to add: those water drops on pins can be the cause aborts. its ok to mist pins just fan like crazy to dry things up a bit.

Heres a few more pics. They seem to have this frosting on them, could it be from high humidity and the excess myc growth?
They're all really fat little chodes, im hoping they'll stretch soon.

LOTSA PINS!!

What do you guys think about the progress and look?

Right??? Only 5 of the 7 currently birthed are growing significantly, I believe these are the PF classic, then the 3 that aren't growing as much have little to no pins, and the caps are a lighter orange color, are the cambodians.
Hopefully those pins are gonna all become long thick mushies =)
Should I be worried about spotting aborts this soon on a pinning cake like that? Its been since 8 days

No, no need to worry. I dont see any aborts on those cakes. Expect to get a few, especially on the cake that has alot of pins. There a fact of life and happen.
Pins wont rot, you can leave them until your ready to harvest. If there on there own you can pic them if you want.. There is no need to pick them right away. Pic as each mushroom is ready.
