found these pinkynail sized and smaller metallic looking either slime or puffballs on rotten wood last fall and havent seen pictures of it anywhere.anybody heard of, or seen this before?

all the pictures I've seen of wolf's milk slime were pink.so this would be some older stuff, I guess.been pondering this pic for a while.thanks.

Good call Alan.

Coon, i have found those, and thought they were fun to squish... although messy.
They are not fungi however.  They are a "Slime Mold", not technically a mold, as molds are fungi.
True "slime molds" are eukaryotes of the kingdom Protista, and are classified as myxomycota or mycetozoa, depending on if you are a mycologist or zoologist by nature.  :wink:

I have seen colours ranging from orange, pink, red, purple, brown, grey, silver, and just about anything in between.
As far as i understand, this species exhibits all of those colour variations.

When they are moist, they are like paste.  Then they dry and become very powdery.

Just like puff balls.  :smile:
