perlite drying up?

I think my perlite is drying up. I'm on my second flush with my cakes. I hydrated it well but now and the first flush I had lots of condensation on the side and the perlite felt moist. Now I have very little condensation and the perlite doesn't feel as moist. Could it have gotten dehydrated. I did accidently leave the lid off of my FC for a few hours, could this have dried it out?

The perlite will dry out through evapoation(that's how it provides humidity) and you'll have to add water periodically.

yea i figured it would dry eventually but it seems like it is drying to fast. RR said that it would take a few months even with tons of little holes in the tub and the lid off. i've only had my perlite for a month.

It will take longer than a month. Condensation on the sides is not in any way, shape, or form an indication of humidity level in the tub. 4" of well hydrated and drained perlite will last at least two months in a tub with a hundred holes drilled into the tub. If you have fewer, it will last longer. The perlite gets plenty of extra moisture when you mist, so be sure to have holes in the bottom of the tub so it can drain out. RR

one exception I can see to this...
RR and I live in an area that has high humidity... so the perlite won't dry out as fast as some other places.
If you live in a place that doesn't have high humidity your perlite might dry out faster... example...if you live in Arizona, New Mexico...etc. Your in a drier climate and your perlite might dry out much faster.
solution...
either add a little water to your perlite or mist it til it's moist again.
and condensation on the sides isn't an indication of humidity...inside your fruiting chamber.
