weeds and closeness to a days work * 1
    #28636427 - 01/27/24 05:43 AM (13 hours, 5 minutes ago)

hi all fellow shroomers friends happy tripping :mushroom2:

i am a big fan of fixing your garden
it has to be all in order
but there are alternatives

if your life is without a job or shitty you can do something to improve it

i found out that the garden (routine) can be approximated to being all in order
that it can come closer to it

for a long time I have been working on the earth and the world
praying
and meditating
(remember milarepa said meditation is a service to the people)
to an extent it is like praying

and that perspective is valid
doing as good as one can for the earth and the world
with what one has
maybe trying to do something that is invaluable
or close to it

but there is another perspective
i found out that way because I felt if i did a drawing it would be such close to being a day's work when i don't have them
and there would be less weeds in my garden
for example half a day
it is a really nice perspective
a trick is to go where you feel you approximate it the best
but that is not necessarily the tactic
always
other approaches can be to do what you do the most with in the future
remember dalai lama said take both the short term and the long term into consideration
but the days work and less weeds approach is superior
but only at a stage, earlier than that it is worse
have good days work and as little weeds as possible
best regards ferdinando

i will also say that you have to go where it feels like you have a days work as soon as possible
also you can decrease weeds by drawing and do more with it

Cool thread, you make some interesting & clear points about gardening and relating it to life in general.
:awesomenod:
I love tending to the garden more than most anything else in the world.
All the work and preperation is rewarding in and of its self; seed starting, ground prep, planning your next crops etc through Winter.
But on an early Summer morning when it's not too hot yet- standing among the sunflowers hearing the breeze rustling their giant, hairy leaves, watering everything and just feeling all the effort I've put into my surroundings coming pouring back into me through the myriad of shapes, smells, colours and textures....
:homerdrool:
Even sitting out for an actual sitting meditation session, watching the birds bathing their feathers in the dusty earth- and then pulling up my tender seedlings lol
:shakecat:
It's so blissful and can be awesomely meditative.

At the same time, there is something to be said about not falling over yourself to get rid of ALL the weeds in a hurry (literally and metaphorically).
I leave a decent bit of the garden chockfull of 'weeds'. They're native to my area- afterall- so serve purpose as far as supporting the birds, insects, companion plants, mycorhizzoal connections with trees, microbiome of soil etc that have evolved relationships with these certain plants.
This goes beyond my desire to see order reflected in my garden.

So I suppose there can be a parallel 'drawn'() between overweeding and stewarding your garden in the direction you want and doing the same mentally/internally. That is, somethings serve purpose beyond their obvious functions, it's not always down to us to be judge, jury & weeder.

Any plant you're particularly stoked for this year?
Cheers anyway man, here's to gardens (once again, the literal and otherwise)- may we keep learning from/for them and never take having one for granted!

As a lifelong plant enthusiast, I agree.

Cultivating plants boosts my mental health.  From irrigation, to taking cuttings, pruning, sowing seeds, to mixing up a batch of fertilizer

good stuff indeed - cultivating plants cultivates joy

Absolutely.
Some of the very best days end with a tanned back of the neck and hands stained green & brown!
I put to you the same question as put to OP: any particular garden thing you're most looking forward to this year?

Got a preferred drawing style, and do you ever draw stuff from out in the garden?
Nature art/drawings are 100% some my favourites, but I'm nowhere near able to draw a convincing plant  Yet...
And, I'm more of a cat guy :shakecat:

I will be growing cayenne peppers this year. In the past I have grown as many as 150 pepper plants, sometimes scotch bonnets. That year I developed an allergy to capsaicin while processing them and could not eat very hot food for several years. Process hot peppers in a well ventilated area, preferably outside.

Anyway, weeds. My last couple grows I used bottomless buckets. They can be placed directly on the ground and the root system will have access to the dirt underneath. If using soil it can be top dressed with gravel or other material, or a couple inches of soiless mix can be used on top.

No need to grow 100s of plants. 3-4 healthy plants can provide enough peppers for year round hot sauce for friends and family.

And my semi-famous hot sauce recipe. Amounts provided for ratio info.

1 lb whole cayenne peppers turned into pepper mash (instruction for mash are easy to find)
1 lb whole cayenne peppers smoked with your wood of choice. The peppers do not need to be smoked dry. 1-2 hours at low heat is plenty. Store smoked peppers in fridge until mash is ready. The smoke will keep them from molding.

Blend the 2 lbs of peppers together using enough vinegar to liquify the slurry (distilled or AC depending on taste preference). Add additional vinegar to achieve desired consistency. At this point the sauce can be bottled and pasteurized if desired (not necessary).
