Fruit flies or bugs

So I started a bulk too late in the season and someone said, “it will eventually grow”. So it’s 2.5 months in now and while mycelium is ready for fruiting, the whole container has small bigger than fruit fly like insects scurrying on the surface and now flying around my house. Is it safe to say if anything starts to pin, it will be eaten.
Chuck it?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't want to keep that myself. I'd rather just start new. I mean the theme of this whole mycology subject is sterility/clean/clear so that's where I'm coming from.

Toss it. 2.5 months is about 1.5 months longer than it should have taken

If the bags are closed they shouldn't be able to get through the filter.

It's not a very clear picture but something doesn't look quite right to me and flies are NOT a good sign. They will get worse and worse and eventually start flying into your nostrils at night while you're trying to fall asleep. Get that out of there!

They're probably fungus gnats. They will eat the mycelium, deposit eggs (which results in maggots), and they can bring contaminants (the only time I've gotten trichoderma is when gnats got to my cakes).
Do a search on fungus gnats and you will see how they can be a problem. You will need to take measures to prevent future infestations with them.
Good luck

Get BTI and sprinkle it over your subs along with any plants in the house and vacuum any visible flies out of the tub, do that regularly, just don’t touch the sub with the vacuum.

If your substrate is that old with no fruits and u have fungus gnats, then something is definitely wrong.....

I'm assuming you speak from experience here?

Oh yeah, they’ve either infected the tub completely or they’re feeding on contamination but that tub is gone, my previous advice is definitely for future grows.
And yeeeaaah, lots and lots of experience ): live in a tropical area, they’re never ending everywhere, know a lot of people that don’t even bother growing indoor plants, you can literally watch clouds of them batting against the windows after rain.

You say that but i found two live fruit flies in a sealed petri dish I forgot about. They had to get in by laying eggs and their larvae wiggling through the folds. It was insane, double wrapped, cling film petris and there was honestly two fruit flies flying around in there. I did let them go outside, I'm not a monster. I've also had them wick in through poor filters before into grain jars. Those fuckers are so good at surviving. They breed in over wet houseplant soil, and around taps/faucets and drain holes.

Fungus gnats suck i agree lol.... micropore tape is the way tho. idk how they got through i can't explain that. But i trapped a dub tub of them and watched the cycle... fuckers are resilient. ALSO NOTHING I DID OUTSIDE could kill all of them lol. I did a lot.... They died when everything was dead lol. Nuke option. If you get them that bad in a tub I say it's over... but you must seal future tubs/ projects with micropore tape. It worked fine to protect the rest of my tubs.
100% from reports of others micropore is not foolproof , but It at least helps lol.

Yeah, I forgot about tape, masking tape around the lid and micropore holes, you can also bti spray your sub, hopefully they’ll spread it everywhere and kill themselves, I also tape fly screen gaps and cleaned up rotten leaves etc from around the house, it all helps but I’ve got them back again now ):

Yeah my tubs have been kicking off this past week & the gnats are back also..
Do you spray the peppermint essential oil on your substrate? or just in the air around your tubs?
