Do you believe psychedelics can or has increased your intelligence level?

Does the unlocking of mental doorways mean you then have a higher intelligence because you then have access to more information and understand of things, more deeply.

For example when I smoke weed I noticeablely, every time, have far greater creative thoughts with depth, it they are fleeting and quickly forgotten if I'm not quick to write them down. They seem to invade my mind as if dropped in via mail post.
Alot of the time though I'm too stoned to bother writing them down so I lose a lot of it. And this seems a temporary effect while under the influence.

Yes I noticed more branching in my thinking and more layering together guiding my way, but the drawback is that it is harder to focus or stay on task.

doing drugs for intellectual growth means not doing drugs more often than doing them - drugs are mentally exhausting and not being able to access what you are on about (reduced Short term memory) is a drawback.

It is not a belief of mine that my use of psychedelics has benefited my intellectual capacity.

I think pondering the nature of the psychedelic experience has provided more insight to me than the experiences have themselves. I think that has provided some clarity and perspective, at least.

I think what it helps with for me is to see and release conditioning, habits of mind, habits of thinking and feeling and reacting.

this creates the opportunity for more intelligent or appropriate ways of understanding and relating to the world. I don't think just having that openess leads to something better without intention. For example cults will help release conditioned thinking and then just replace that with their conditioned thinking which is often less intelegent

all though judging intellegence assumes we have the intelligence to judge how intellegent we are...

No, but LSD is a stimulant and stimulants are performance enhancing drugs.

There was a study done back in the 60s on this topic that I read recently, one of the most high quality studies from the era I've seen, it showed a drop of several IQ points during the psychedelic experience. I don't think that's any great surprise given the nature of the experience.

However, psychedelics can teach you to think in new ways and open your mind to new ideas and new possibilities that you may never have otherwise considered. Take that how you will.

For me, psychedelics' introduced me to mood swings described in psychiatry as bipolar disorder. I have what is known as depressive realism. My intellect or intelligence has increased in the sense that I'm more aware of depressing realities such as bullying and subtle crimes against myself and others. My vocabulary about things related to aesthetics has also increased.  However, the quickness of my intellect had not improved and when it comes to games like Cribbage, I'm the same old slow person I always was. Cribbage demands quickness of thinking but also multitasking. I'm not good at it, and I don't see how I could improve.  If anything, psychedelics' have humbled me and introduced me to myself as a someone slow and even non-calculating person.  Intelligent, I am not. Aware of my own bullshit, more so than ever.

I always play cribbage with my wife (well usually at least once per day) - I keep score with paper, and have filled 5 books with games recorded and dated since covid began, we are both stupid and it's a great way to be.
usually it's at dinner, which is a simple one food deal, either salad or roasted broccoli, or something like that.

I used to hate cribbage as it was how I would get roped into doing cocaine, but those days are gone.

right, you have to watch that you are not so open minded that things fall out and make a mess.

I find the trouble with an open mind is people react to it. Most people live with belief structures, and if they pick up on your openness they see it as a threat. I find I have to do a little dance to remain authentic without stepping on toes.

Also it means in a way you don't fit in anywhere, as people tend to organize themselves around belief structures. At the same time, you fit in everywhere, because you don't have belief structures getting in the way of connection.

I think its fine to let it all drop out. There isn't any place for it to land anyway. Then you can respond without being tied to preconception.

just kidding,
i do feel smarter from the stimulant side with greater perceptual branching from the psychedelic side.
more in the moment and more in touch with reflected experience.

I've been using psychedelics fairly regularly and mostly on my own for 25 years, and they have always felt clarifying and grounding to me. For others they seem to be ungrounding and destabilizing sometimes, and I've been wondering what the difference is.

If I get tangled up in my guts, I do not feel smarter, the body has to be in good condition for the stimulant side to be fun, and the ramifications to branch sideways nicely
