The Great Gig In The Sky 2

The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd is hands down one of the best songs to listen to while tripping or sober for me.
When I’m sober it never fails to give me goosebumps, send shivers down my spine and take me on a roller coaster ride.
When I’m tripping… man. It’s all of those things times one thousand.
The chord changes, the key changes, the emotion, the vocals that pull on the strings of your inner being… it’s unexplainable.
All of that happens with zero lyrics. It’s just pure emotion expressed with music. I can’t do it justice in a text based post lol.
Anyone else feel this way about this song? If you haven’t heard I’d highly recommend listening to it while you’re on a psychedelic.

I accidentally left my headphones on once while listening to rap and hitting some spice for the first time. I think I absentmindedly forgot or underestimated the extent to which music would influence the experience, and was only really intending to try out my homemade Machine with part of me not really expecting it to even work underestimating the power of one toke (not using an oil burner).
Then I felt its power coming toward me! I could feel this almighty tingling charge approaching me like electricity down a phone line! I tried momentarily to hang up (wrong number) but then reluctantly just let it obliterate me!
You know how some people say of psychedelics that they could see the music?
Well this was the metaphysical infrastructure of hyperspace built from solid psychedelic edifices of ever-moving-ever-changing, and ever-rapidly intensifying pure music! Only -in keeping with the tone of rap music- this musical and ever-morphing/moving architecture was incarnated with a dark and harsh (rap) personality(s)! Although the actual lyrics had changed into that arcane alien gibberish language that makes no sense whatsoever but one can understand completely (not the actual words of the song) I don’t think I even realized I was listening to music until I returned to my body!
It just seemed like the experience (or my imagination) and the music, were entirely one and the same thing, and although personally I would never have chosen Rap music for a blast off, that particular song seemed somehow tailor made for the (Machine) experience and is, and always will be for me now, synonymous with DMT!
Didn't use music on subsequent spice journeys but next time (assuming there is a next time) might give your suggestion a try bud.
I also want to try orchestral music. Things like Gilbert and Sullivan. I have a feeling that kind of music would take the DMT experience to another level all on its own. There are just so many different things going on with orchestral/opera music and it is so stirring and climatical but at the same time -with Gilbert and Sullivan- playful/lighthearted! Should be a real carnival or circus I reckon!
I also want to try something more tranquil and religious, though don’t have many ideas on that score.
Any suggestions would be welcome!

That sounds intense man haha. I don’t think I could handle dark sounding rap on an intense trip… it’d send me mad haha
Forward Escape by Tipper is awesome.. very tranquil, lots of crazy noises and awesome rhythms. Love it. Not very religious sounding though I don’t think

Don't even know what I mean by "religious" to be honest! I don't mean "he's got the whole world in his hands" or christian rock, but just something more... heavenly!

Yes both Great Gig and Us and Them I find to be very moving, although as you pointed out Great Gig gets it done without any words at all…

It really is a great song, and for all the reasons pointed out. The vocal performance can easily leave you in tears. Pure emotion without words to cloud things up.
The band "The flower kings" has a huge catalog of music that I'm still making my way through, but they'll take you down similar roads. And the guitarist, Roine Stolt will stir up just as much emotion as David Gilmour's guitar.
My problem with Dark side and PF in general is that I've listened to all those things too many times. Both tripping and sober. It's just too familiar to me. In contrast, I downloaded this Flower Kings torrent of like 30 CD's worth of music. I'll probably never get too familiar with all of it.

Yes, beyond fucking amazing. Its placement among the rest of the album is just something else. I agree that sadly, the familiarity/ overvisiting definitely begins to lessen its magic after a while.
Reminds me too, of a meme I once seen saying:
Quote:
"Everyone gangsta listening to DSotM on LSD 'til "Time" begins..."

I recently heard 'Absolutely Curtains' for the first time on a trip and man; Floyd really are so skilled at getting you JUST uncomfortable enough with cacophany that, by the time the musical stuff comes in, it feels like your whole soul busts its nut.
