SPG's 1 Quart Candles 3

Here's my easy method to make 1 quart candles that will burn continuously for well over a week. One note, I don't ever use dyes. I haven't found any that don't affect the candle negatively. Therefore, I forgo the aesthetics of dye in favor of the best smelling candle I can make. Also, you can burn these candles until they go out on their own. Because of the domed bottom in mason jars, it will stay cool. Enjoy!

Materials: 1) Scale (5000g x .1g) 2) Jars (1qt soda glass mason) 3) Wicks (prewaxed and pretabbed CD 20) 4) Wick Stickers 5) Wax (10% max load container soy) 6) Fragrance Oil 7) Straw (straight aluminum) 8) Water Bath (thermostatic) 9) Water (potable tap) 10) Flask screw top borosilicate erlynmeyer 11) Funnel 24/40 ground borosilicate 12) Wick Holder 13) Painter's Tape 14) Candle Topper 15) Trivet soda glass 16) Wick Scissors 18) Lighter 19) Towel 20) Marker 21) Pitcher
Procedure: 1) Tare scale with pitcher.

2) Add 750g wax to the pitcher. I use midwest container soy wax from Amazon, but any soy wax for containers with a 10% max fragrance oil load should work well.

3) Tare scale with the flask and funnel.

4) Add 60g fragrance oil to the flask. For this candle, I used a blend of 28.4g cinnamon stick and 31.6g macintosh apple from Candle Science. This step affects the scent and quality of the candle more than anything, so use a quality fragrance oil designed for candles, not an essential oil or cheap crap.

5) Add as much wax as possible to flask and place in 83°C water bath.

6) When enough wax melts, add the remaining wax and close loosely.

7) When all wax has melted, gently swirl and lower the water bath to 53°C

8) Place a wick in the straw. I get mine from Candle Science, but any quality CD20 will work.

9) Place a sticker on the wick tab. I get mine from Candle Science.

10) Using the straw, attach the wick to the bottom center of the jar.

11) Use the wick holder to center the wick in the top of the jar and affix with painters tap to prevent movement during the pour or if you bump the jar.

12) When the wax reaches 53°C, remove from the bath, wipe off excess water with the towel and pour into jar.

13) Let the candle solidify, remove wick holder and then screw closed. 14) Write the scent and date on the candle lid. Allow the candle to season for at least 2 weeks before you light it.

15) I use these special wick scissors to trim the wick almost all the way down between burning. However, I've also left the wick alone with no real ill effects.

16) Use a trivet like this to protect heat sensitive surfaces.

17) Use a candle topper like this to ensure an even burn. It helps quite a bit. I got this one on Amazon.

Thanks. I wonāt ever write up my mescaline extraction since I donāt do it anymore, but feel free to message me is youāre ever doing one and want crystals like the ones I made below. I may do a psilocybin extraction tek when I get time since I havenāt seen anyone post pure crystals here yet.

Very cool.
Please note that the wording of US federal law considers any breakable container that contains any flammable substance and has a wick allowing ignition; to be a dangerous device that requires a federal licence to make, store and transport. These laws are seldom enforced against candles in glass jars but they still meet the federal definition of a dangerous device. The law about this stuff is vague and it is enforced inconsistently, but a risk for prosecution exists for this nonetheless.
If the jar is replaced with a metal container that cannot break then the law cannot be applied.

Perhaps.
Your candle design does look rather nice. I'll likely be making couple of them.

I tend to prefer frankincense essential oils, but if I try anything distinct I'll relate it here.
