With growing a mushroom, there are a lot more steps involved. I'm not saying it is hard neccesarily, as following the PF-tek directions is not neccesarily difficult. But there is a lot of equipment involved (sab, etc), and even experienced growers fail sometimes. Some new growers have a very hard time getting the hang of it, and sometimes there is systemic failure (all substrates mold).
Growing a cactus might require a certain environment, such that some people will not be able to grow them. It will likely require taking them in for the winter. However, in terms of hours of work, it seems like it'd take a lot less time to LEARN how to grow a cactus as opposed to learning how to grow a mushroom. Watering each day takes a negligible amount of time for example, compared to grain prep, spawning, etc.
But Ill say, the sheer amount of psychedelics grown each year for a cactus is negligible (a few inches of growth) whereas one can grow a room full of mushrooms in a year if they get the method down.

i agree with the cactus being easier to grow/maintain. however a cactus will take years from seed, less if you buy a cutting. but you're still talking about a year for one-ish experiences. mescaline is a different experience than psylocibin. you could grow mush in 2-3 months if you're careful and read the teks. and enough to have more than one experience if you did PF Tek on 6 healthy 1/2 pint jars.
that said, my first time trying to grow mush worked out in 3 months. and i got 4-5 experiences out of it. my next go was a complete failure. now i have it down and if i decide i want to have some i can in about 45-60 days. glad i stuck with it and learned. i also have a cactus i've been taking care of but it's another year out before i would think about cutting it.
good luck and anything you need to know / learn you can here. search pf tek. try it. and why not start a cactus at the same time

From experience i can tell you, growing san pedro takes almost no effort, however, potency varies A LOT. they grow about 50 cm per year in good conditions
mushrooms give a better bang for your buck, you can get a harvest in 2 months, although you need to be much cleaner
