What to do with these beat up oyster bags? Want to fruit, want to clone
    #27428582 - 08/14/21 11:19 PM (2 years, 5 months ago)

New to gourmet. I ordered these pink and yellow oyster grow bags and they got kind of beat up in the mail. I think the pink bag has a large pin. Does that mean it's fully colonized? The mycelium could have gotten beaten up in shipping and been hidden, like mycelia hides when it's shaken. The substrate looks a little cracked in some places. It feels dense so I think it's sawdust.

To clone: I'm thinking of using tweezers and taking a pinch of each substrate to BRF pucks. I can also biopsy the pin with a syringe and squirt it onto agar.

To fruit: Should I slit or X the side and put it in a humid FC with high FAE? Are they ready for that? I have no eyes for oyster grow bags yet. The bags have an instruction video but they are in the local language which I don't understand. Plus the instructions might be oversimplified, using a towel rather than a FC.

Yeah I'd just cut some slits or x's and put in a fruiting chamber and see what happens.  Hard to tell what's going on there really

For cloning, I find it easier to work with a larger mushroom so I'd wait till I got a full size one if it were me, but then again who knows if it'll make it to that point.  Either of the methods you said should work as well

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
